Questions from a FTM :)

Ok, so my little girl is a month old and I'm running into a few things I have questions about.  First of all, when did you guys start giving your little ones a wubanub?  I hear they can help keep the binkies in their mouths and we have one, but I don't know if it's too early to use it.  Second, if you ebf for a while before introducing a bottle, after introducing the bottle, did your baby start to fuss while bf-ing some?  We do one relief bottle a day and now when I bf her she almost fights it at times.  We use the dr. Browns bottles.  Also, when did you all start using play mats and when did your babies start playing with rattles and other toys?  Thanks in advance!

Re: Questions from a FTM :)

  • My DD will b 7 weeks tomorrow and she does not really play with anything. She may look at them, that's about it. I also BF with a relief bottle now and then. I use playtex dropins. The bottle is obviously easier to eat from so LO may get a little lazy....mine did. I think as long as they are gaining you are doing it right. We have been using a pacifier for a couple weeks now. We like the mam brand.

  • I'm a FTM too, but this is my experience.

dunno about the wubanub, DD won't take a binky at all

She takes a bottle semi ok, but she does tend to fight a bit and get lazy, but I also find she does it when she's overtired too.

We've been using a playmat since 2 weeks and she's just started playing with it! She'll reach for the captain calamari that I have and knock it around to hear the rattle!

    GL!

  • Also a FTM. Our pedi said not to introduce a pacifier until 6 wks to avoid nipple confusion. I notice that after he has one he struggles latching on, so I'm not giving him one the often.

With the bottle I was told to just give him one every 5 days to get use to it since I'm ebf.  Also when giving him one to hold him up right like he's sitting and hold the bottle horizontal. To make him work for it and not have it pour in his mouth and become lazy. Like pp said you can try different bottles too.

I haven't brought out the activity mat, probably should do that. Thanks for the reminder.

  • Can't help with the wubanub.

DD took a bottle early on since I couldn't get her to latch so I pumped and DH fed her that. I also had to use a nipple shield, so we had all kinds of things going on. Now we're nipple shield free and she feeds well.

We have already started using the playmat, but it's really not her playing with it. There still seems to be awhile before rattles and stuff.
