Stretch mark creams?

Hi all, have you been using or plan on using stretch mark creams during your pregnancy?? Ive been using bio oil, but am wondering if there are some better options out there to prevent/help stretch marks.  Thanks!

Re: Stretch mark creams?

  • You can't prevent stretch marks, it has more to do with your genetics but you can try to minimize the damage. I use Palmer's Stretch Mark Lotion and so far so good. Also, staying hydrated and gaining weight at a steady pace helps.

  • I heard good things about bio oil from other women...I've been using vitamin E oil and Palmers therapy oil...So far its been good for me. Yes, and stretch marks are usually genetic, but helps to gain gradually and keep hydrated!
  • Stretchmark creams? Don't work.

Well, they work well to keep skin hydrated, but that's about it.

  • I wasn't going to bother with the creams because if you're going to get stretch marks, you're going to get them. BUT the dry, itchy skin got to be overwhelming so I started using Palmer's Stretch Mark Lotion in the morning and at night. I don't have any stretch marks as of right now, but I'm not putting any stock in a magic cream that will stop them from happening.

  • I've been using Palmers but I don't buy into the whole genetics thing either.  My SIL had badddddd stretch marks with her first daughter and her mom gave birth to 5 kids with not a single stretch mark.  I just think it's the luck of the draw.

This. I have been using Revitol because cocoa butter creams make me red and itchy

  • I use the Mamma Mio Tummy Rub which is really nice, but agree that they don't actually prevent stretch marks.  They prevent itchiness, dry skin, irritations, etc...but that's about it.  I live in a cold dry climate so it's been a lifesaver.

My derm said stretch marks are caused by 2 things only (1) genetics and (2) how much/how fast you gain weight.  She did say that if I get them (red stretch marks), while they are red they can be treated with Strivectin ointment and to go to her if I see any.  They can also be treated after giving birth with lasers, but once they turn white (I have some of these on my thighs from old stretch marks), absolutely nothing you can do.  Hope that's helpful in some way!

  • Ditto to what the other ladies said. But, I've been using Burt's Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter, and so far I'm stretch-mark free. I've been debating whether to switch to something else when my tub runs out, but I'm not sure if I should mess with a good thing.

I have found good luck with "body butter" .. My favorite is by Pacifica https://www.pacificaperfume.com/natural-body-butter

  • I use Palmers stretch mark cream on my stomach, breasts, hips, butt and thighs. Although, it does not prevent them, keeping the skin moisturized helps with elasticity.  So far (knock on wood), I do not have any stretch marks.

Genetics don't mean that every thing that happens to mother happens to daughter. I completely agree that its luck of the draw, but I think you can be genetically predisposed to have worse skin then others, which means your mom may have mild marks, you get none and your daughter is a roadmap.

  • I am using a combination of almond and hazelnut oils plus a few drops of pure grade lavender oil.

It helps to stay hydrated, so let's see where this will end!

  • I have been using Burts Bees Mama Bee Belly Balm. It's super thick and waxy but last all day. I put it on my belly, thighs and boobs and then just use Burts Bees Milk and Honey lotion everywhere else.

I know I can't to anything to prevent them but that doesn't stop me from trying Cool

  • I'm using Bella B Tummy Honey Butter. This is my 3rd pregnancy and so far no stretch marks on my tummy so far. And I did gain 50 lbs and 40 lbs with the previous pregnancies. I do have stretch marks on my boobs though 'cause they got HUGE when my milk came in and I never thought that I needed to moisturize there too.. Oh well, at least now I know - and you do too!!

This exactly. I use it most often when my belly itches...it helps.

  • I use palmers butter at night ( it is thick and ruins your clothes) and the body shop makes a nice body butter that I use in the morning ( doesn't ruin clothes).  Both leave my skin hydrated and soft, love !
