February 2012 Moms

Garrett is Here!!

Garrett Colton was born on February 10th, 2012 at 4:51pm. He weighed 5lb 9oz and was 19.5 in long.

 Here is my birth story:

We had quite the past few days!! I had routine appt with ultrasound scheduled. My appt was at 1030. Garrett's tummy was measuring 3w2d behind and his overall growth was measuring 1w behind. So the dr decided he wanted to induce me the next day but I had to get checked in that night. We didn't leave there until 1230 and had to be at registration at 345!! So we rushed home to get everything together. I got checked in at 4 on Thursday night to start the cytotech. I was only 1 cm and 50%. So I knew it would be a while. I got checked in and all hooked up and gave them a urine sample. +2 protein in my urine which was up from the +1 in my urine that morning. Started my iv and told me at 9 they would start the magnesium to prevent seizures since i had PIH. Started the first cytotech at 7. Then the next was 11 then 3. Then at 630am i was only 2cm and 50% still, so he broke my water then and they started pitocin @ 730am and upped it every 30mins from there. The contrax weren't that bad but I decided to get the epi at about 1030 to help with my bp and could still sit still through the contrax.  The anesthesiologist came up and gave me the epi (didn't really hurt all that much) then we sat and waited for me to progress. At about 230 she checked me and said I was 4.5. Then at 330 I could feel pressure and pain on my right side from contrax and realized the epi was wearing off on that side, they called the anesthesiologist and while he was on his way up they checked me again and I was at 8! He gave me some extra meds but said I would take 15 mins to kick in, I was feeling pressure at 350 so they checked and I was @ 10!!! They called the doc, and I started pushing. I pushed for about 25 mind and then Garrett's hr started decreasing and I had to wait through contrax for the dr to get in here. He decided right away we needed to use forceps and get him out. So he sets up and tells me to push. In three quick pushes and a with a little guidance he was out! I have a 2nd degree tear but I'm not worried about that. Garrett was blue and not breathing, they wisked him away to get cared for. He was okay, they said the magnesium was in his system as well and it makes him very lazy and weak, but with a little help from the nurses and some oxygen, he perked up and started breathing on his own! I got violently ill after he was born and they gave me some nausea medicine and it knocked me out until about 3am.  I was anxious to go see my baby, but they wouldn't let me out of bed until I was off the magnesium. The dr came in at about 730 and told me that i was in the clear and they were going to take me off of it, but had to wait a few hrs before I could get out of bed! I was a mess! I just wanted out of that damn bed!! After about an hour, I told the nurse i was feeling better and just wanted to go to the NICU! So she talked to the dr and he said in a wheelchair and i wasn't allowed to get up at all! So we headed to the NICU and after a stressful delivery and a scary night and morning, i finally got to see and hold my baby boy!! Smile Even though i was 1 day shy of 38wks when he was born, they referred to him as and treated him like a premie because of his developmental age.  He had to stay an extra night but got to come home the day after us! We are all doing well and he is just absolutely precious and i'm completely in love!!

I had my little girl 3.5 weeks early due to the same reason . . . pre-e. She was 19.5" too and 5 lbs. 14 ozs. She was back to her birth weight by the time she was 1.5 weeks.

I'm glad that everything worked out and your little boy was perfect. Congrats!!
