Have they had any change in their BMs? Also, how long on the med before you noticed an improvement?
We just started our 6 wk old on Mon night and I swear that yesterday he was doing better - so much less cringing and crying and he wasn't spitting up volumes of curdled milk ( just two small little spit ups one would expect from an infant ).
I EBF and my son typically has a BM with each feeding...that hasn't changed; however, yest and today the amount of poo in each diaper is amazing! Wondering if this is likely due to his having started the Zantac.
I would love to hear your experience with your infant on this med! ....and any tips as to how to get the medicine into the baby without some being spit out would be great too! Lol
Re: If your LO is on Zantac for reflux....
My daughter has been on it for a little over a week now. For her it took almost that whole week to really notice a change after the first day of taking it. We also noticed a change in her poop diapers. Monday at her 1 month check up i was told that the increase was because she is now getting more since she isnt spitting so much up.
As far as getting it in her mouth she is the worst. SHe gets .6ml and i use the syringe that the pharmacy gave me. I have started giving it to her slowly like on little line on the syringe at a time. seems so work better for her.
hope that helps!
Ds was 10 pounds 15 ounces and 22 inches and the dose is 1.3ml twice a day.
As for the poop I am not sure as we also changed formula to Elecare at the same time we added Zantac. We are on .7ml three times daily. The first day we noticed a little difference but I think it was more due to the formula change than anything else. It's been since Friday that he has the Zantac and formula change but so far he seems just as fussy. My dr says to give it 2 weeks and if he is still having reflux we will change to another medication.
A trick I just learned with the administration of Zantac is to put it in a bottle nipple. This is working like a charm...when we tried to give it to him any other way he spit it out..this way he is sucking it all out with no problems.
I was told it takes about 2 weeks to take the full effect.
To give him the meds I lay him on his changing pad and squirt it in his mouth, then I close his mouth to sort of force him to swallow. It sounds cruel, I know.
I've noticed he spits up and seems to be fussier right around the time I give it to him. I think it's because it's worn off from the last dose and the new one doesn't kick in right away. He's happiest in the middle of the night and the middle of the day.
If it's really bad I give him Maalox.
I didn't notice any diaper changes but he's always been an overachiever in that category!
10lbs 3 oz and he gets .5ml 2x a day. I am wondering if we need to up the dose though.
I am not a Doctor but I would say yes because DD is 8lb 7.5oz and is taking .7ml 2x a day. We just started yesterday evening and I've seen a small difference. She still grunts and curls her legs up but no screaming pain or crying. Although she does seem to be a little constipated this morning so I gave her a ounce of apple juice. I hope it works, I just want her to be pain free:()
