What is your biggest irrational (or possibly rational) fear?
My biggest two? Snakes and logging trucks!
Snakes in cages are fine. But a nasty slithering thing in the wild reduces me to a sniveling idiot. Not pretty. Other Vermin I don't have a problem with.
Logging trucks - I always have this fear the logs are going to come undone and come through my window. Yeah I have BSC moments.
Re: Irrational Fears GTKY
Ok I will let my freak flag fly and tell you all that I am extremely afraid of potatoes that have begun to spud those little eye things... Completely freaks me out to the point where I have left my apartment and refused to go back in unless DH or my brother have removed them for the apartment.
I know... I'm crazy.
My biggest two?
Crashing in a plane over the ocean/drowning, which is weird because I LOVE THE BEACH AND THE OCEAN AND SUMMERTIME
My other one is driving over bridges. My dad used to be silly and joke like he was losing control over bridges which scared the pee outta me so now I always drive in the middle lane (if given the option) on a bridge and definitely brace for the unlikely...
Bugs.
Singing in public.

Actual fears... sharks, that's the biggest one. I can't do aquariums, boats, or the beach or anything because of it. Heaven forbid if one comes on tv or if I pass a shark cover in the video store.
Complete chaos lol.
(1) Bugs, beetles, anything with a hard shell or more than 4 legs!
(2) Being stuck on or under a bridge in traffic. I guess i am afraid the weight of cars will cause it to fall.
I am super afraid of Thunderstorms, as soon as I see bad looking clouds I hide out in the basement watching the weather channel and 2 local channels and tracking storms on my computer... I don't know how I'm going to keep calm enough to tell my kids that they don't have to be afraid of thunderstorms, I really hope DH can do that for me.
Also, I hate driving over bridges, I always wait until the heavier trucks are over it before I make a true attempt to cross, and I always drive in the middle of the bridge not the outer lanes.
My last one is trains, I used to have nightmares that they would come off the tracks and get me when I was little. now I"m just super uncomfortable around them and if I have to cross tracks, I do it as quickly as possible because I"m afraid of my car stalling on the tracks... ( I think I watched to much rescue 911 as a kid)
This is 100% me. I can't even see snakes in cages though. I have nightmares about snakes. A couple of years ago I was showing a house (luckily to my mom) we were standing in the yard. I could see something moving out of the corner of my eye and when I looked down I saw I was standing on a garter snake. I ran two blocks in blind fear screaming oh my god before I came to my senses. My mom just shook her head.
I'm also terrified of flat bed semi's with anything strapped to them. I stay way behind so as to avoid getting squished.
Ha...my family loves to pick on me for mine.
I have a crazy fear of being killed by a mountain lion. I've only seen one in my life but had crazy nightmares about it around my wedding and haven't gotten over it since
This is another one of my fears! Embarassing story...I was rather drunk one time and laying by the campfire with my friends. Someone threw a beer box into the fire and it rolled (maybe and inch) toward me and I screamed and cried like I was going to catch on fire. I still haven't lived that one down.
Choking. I have never choked on anything, but am terrifed I am going to. Sooo, I am the world's slowest eater and chew my food a million times before swallowing.
And water creatures. I love swimming in the ocean, but am petrified of even the smallest fish touching me. When I feel like one swims up against me, I panic and start flapping around in the water like a looney.

I am afraid of stairs, too. Stairwells, specifically. When I was in college, a kid hung himself in the stairwell right down the hall from my dorm. My roomates and I walked under his dead body for several days, because no one knew his body was hanging up at the top of the stairwell. So to this day, I get anxious in stairwells and feel like someone is going to chase me or something.

Me too!
Other fears:
Spiders (I had a baaaaad experience)
Tornadoes (I cannot watch Twister. I've never seen a real one and hope I never do.)
I have always had this fear and after the I-35W bridge collapse...my fear has gotten a lot worse.
So- that's one of mine. I'm also terrified of roller coasters. You will never see me riding a roller coaster...ever.
Vengeful Asian women (The Ring, The Grudge, ugh...) Scares the crap out of me. I have watched tons of scary movies, I particularly love the bad ones (Sci-fi channel originals crack me up) and I've never had an issue getting creeped out by any creature they've come up with. This bunch of Asian directors lately has managed to do things on camera that freak me right out, but I have to watch them at least once apparently. Horrible habit.
My husband is afraid of spiders, clowns, and wolves. I have warned him if he ever tries to scare me with my greatest fear, he will never have peace in this house again, since his are much easier to come up with, and I'm nowhere near afraid of any of them.
I have the same issue since I'm scared of loud noises! I turn into a complete 5 year old when I even just see lightning. I'm horrified that my kids will learn to be scared from me :-/
Yes! I went snorkeling once...hated it. I could only relax for 2 seconds to enjoy something and then something else would catch my eye and freak me out. It was very intimidating...especially being near the blue holes (underwater caves)....the darkness was so scary!
Fish...dead or alive. I am scared to death of fish. I hate swimming in lakes/ocean because they just creep me out.
The puppets on Mr. Rogers. They have always scared me and still do.
Bugs...any kind...
Goodbye little angel(7/22/2011)....see you in heaven
Goodbye my second angel (9/18/2011)
1) Snakes: We had a snake in our backyard and DH texted me some pics while I was at work. I refused to go in the yard for a very, very long time after that.
2) Being in a bank or store while it gets robbed. I don't even go into the bank anymore and I am always jumpy in convenience stores, fast food restaurants, etc. (<--This fear is not irrational for me; when I was in college, a girlfriend and I were eating in a fast food restaurant and a guy came in w/ a gun. No one was hurt but I think I have post-traumatic stress from it or something.)
This is mine too! Small brides don't bother me but the really big ones that you have to go over to get to the beach and especially the Tappan Zee bridge in NY make me so freaking nervous! I have actually had dreams about getting to the top of those bridges just going too fast that I float right off. Freaks me out! I am generally scared of cliffs too. I don't think I would enjoy going to see the grand canyon because of this. Also windy mountain roads with no railing scare me..... I sound like such a baby! lol
My car not working...I always get such axiety if my car doesn't work or it might have a problem.
ya...I started my day with my check engine light going on and it stalling. UGH! Still trying to calm down.
my dad drove me to work and after i have an appointment to have it looked at. if i can get the car there...
Same here. I purposely make sure I'm never directly beside or behind one.
My somewhat rational fear is death by suffocation/drowning.
My other irrational fear is some crazy coming into our house in the middle of the night and killing us all. Maybe not so far-fetched since we had a drunk walk into our house at 3am and pass out on top of our dog. Most terrifying night of my life.
I realize that I have this fear too! I was craving candy and the best place for DH to stop at on our way home was a gas station and my first thought was that I did not want to go inside because it was probably getting or going to get robbed!
What a horrifying story!!! I would be traumatized from public staircases after this!
Thunderstorms & the dark.
My dog has to wear a special suit when it's storming & I know I don't calm him down very much because I get so freaked out myself.
I always had a night light when I was younger. & screw going into a completely dark room. I always require a light be turned on somewhere so I can see. Even if I know where something is.

HAHA! Me too! I am a pro at catching bugs in my homemade bug catcher...a magazine subscription card that I use to scoop the bug into a red party cup (solo cup), and then I fling them outside off the deck. HAHA
My biggest irrational fear is centipedes and driving in a car. When I was younger I was attacked by a centipede. It was the most frightening and ugliest creature I have ever seen. I've been petrified of them ever since.
I got my fear of driving in a car after my best friend was in a head on collision with a drunk driver in 2006. I now have PTSD as a result and I absolutely cannot stand long road trips or driving in bad weather. Thank goodness I have a patient husband.
I am terrified of someone else driving while I'm a passenger in a car. I force myself to let my husband drive so I don't become completely psychotic about it, but the entire time he is driving my anxiety level is at around an 8. If we're going over 80 I start to have a panic attack.
I'm also terrified of large birds.
Sea creatures also make me super nervous and scared. When I was snorkeling in Hawaii at Hanauma (sp?) Bay the tide was out and the water was super shallow. I literally could've reached down and touched the coral and fish while swimming on the surface. At one point I looked down and there were like 4 holes in the coral I was swimming over. There were eels in every hole with their creepy mouths open...just looking at me. I had a total panic attack and got my butt out of the water asap!! I haven't been snorkeling since.
I am late to this party but I will share my biggest fear.
Its speaking in public. Even when I get asked questions by checkout ladies or the girls at Starbucks, I get anxious.
I have a terrible stutter that goes from pretty bad to terrible based on my moods and whats happening in my life. When naming Ella, my biggest concern was picking a name that I can say... say my first and last name is like torture, when the Starbucks lady asks for my name I give her DH's name because I can actually say it without stammering for 30 seconds and getting red.
I hate that it runs my life like that, typing it out it sounds so pathetic, and I really hope I can get therapy for it someday soon.
Yeah I'm super late, and I think at least one person has taken all of mine...
I'm terrified of the dark my bf freaks out because he likes it be completely dark when he sleeps, I'm terrified of riding with other people in cars... I feel like nobody pays as much attention as I do, especially my bf. I hate riding with him. I can't swim, so I'm kind of scared of water, but if it's dark or murky water, nope can't do it, because the fish touching me thing freaks me out too... I'm scared of a fire while I'm sleeping, or someone coming in and killing us (although having dogs has helped with that because they would bark), people hiding under my car or in my back seat while I'm alone, my mom told me stories when I was little that have scarred me for life, she was just trying to make sure I payed attention to my surroundings, and believe me, I do... dolls creep me out, balloons with faces, bugs, mostly roaches, maggots, and June bugs... ugh I HATE them, oh and praying mantis' and stick bugs too, they're just too creepy... I'm going to stop before you guys think I'm a lunatic lol
