Good toddler backyard toys?

I really want to get Jack a nice swingset but I think it'll need to wait till next summer. So what are some other good backyard toys that I can get him?

Also what about a sand box? Mainly a kiddie pool filled with sand....is this a huge mistake or a good idea?

    What about getting a sandbox with a lid?  We've got critters that like to leave us presents and it kind of skeeves me out thinking about them leaving presents in DS's sandbox.  Ha.  I'm also planning on getting him a sensory table in the spring.

    G LOVES the sandboxes. I believe Sams or Costcos has decent ones (maybe not right this second) but definitely by summer. :)

     I would definitely go with a covered sandbox.

    Sand box, water table (DS loves his), plastic slide, push toys, wagon, sprinkler/slip n slide thing, basketball hoop, baseball bat and plastic T, cozy coupe.

    we have a water table, a little tikes club house type house, a playscape, and we keep his toy lawn mower back there.  but his most favorite toy is the dirt.  Huh?

    PPs have named most of ours, but I would add balls--the big plastic kind in the bins at target and nerf balls are favorites around here.

    We stayed away from the sandbox b/c there were fireants in our yard and I didn't want them in the box.

    We had lots of balls in different sizes, an old storage container we used for a water table (we couldn't pick one back then) and he had a blow up pool. Also we had some tonka trucks.

    Currently, we have a little tykes pirate ship water table and H has a shovel he digs under the deck with :) we also keep his balance bike out side too and a sprig push truck that plays sounds/songs when you run with it. 

    He also has a bubble mower :)
