Late Term and Child Loss

Loss my little boy - 2/16

I'm very new to this board... my husband and I tried for a year on our own, did 2 years of IVF - we had one ectopic... the very next ivf round we got pregnant with our twins - it was amazing. One twin was always measuring smaller.. and passed away at 9.5 weeks. I had four times that I hemmorhaged - but I never passed the deceased baby - he remained the entire pregnancy. The other baby did wonderful... he thrived... Well, at 10pm on Wednesday February 15th - I woke up - went to the bathroom - and my water broke. I was 18 weeks pregnant. We got to the hospital and our little boy was still alive - but the sac was ruptured... we either had to have a dne or be induced and deliver our baby too soon - the night was doomed. We decided to wait a few hours in hopes that there were any chance in the fluid being replaced - in that time - my husband felt his son move in my womb for the very first time... about a half hour after that - I knew something was different. We looked at ultrasound and our little man had passed away. I then chose to be induced. The first doctor and nurse I had - sucked... they tried a morphine drip which was doing nothing for pain except causing me to vomit. The next doctor who came in.. and nurse (they were all changing shifts) were wonderful. I had an epidural - and after 4 hours of being induced- I delivers my little boy in a matter of minutes. Hudson Edward was born 7inches long and 8.5ounces. He was beautiful. He has his daddy's long toes, his hands, and definitely his daddy's nose. He had my lips.... and a certain expression on his face that my husband tells me I get when I am sleeping. I love that little boy.I know time is the only thing that will help heal me... but the question will always remain as to why my water broke. The placenta was sent for testing - and I wonder if there was some type of infection ... I also wonder if I will ever have a live baby... all these questions I guess no one could answer. That's my story... thank you for reading... I hope I can manage to mentally be better some day.

  • I am so very sorry for your losses. I know all to well the frustrations of not knowing why your water broke. The testing on the placenta can tell alot, so hopefully they find some answers for you. I hope you can find all the support you need on this board. The women here are amazing.

Were they ever able to tell you anything as to why it happened? (I noticed you went through it twice... I am so sorry for that... no one should ever have to) How long did it take you to get back to work... I still do not know when I will be able to... also (TMI ALERT) I just today noticed my bbs are lumpy and swollen.. am I seriously going to have to go through milk let down too?!?!

I still do not know when I will be able to... also (TMI ALERT) I just today noticed my bbs are lumpy and swollen.. am I seriously going to have to go through milk let down too?!?!

Unfortunately, your milk is probably coming in... Where a tight shirt or sports bra and don't touch them. Also, try not to let the water hit directly on your breasts. All this stimulates the milk production. If it gets painful, try stuffing your bra with cabbage leaves. It sounds gross, but actually helps. I also took Advil every 4 hours. Once the engorgement starts, you will probably have a good 3 days of pain, before the milk starts to dry up.

Each loss I was out for 3 weeks. I could have taken longer, but it is very difficult staying home alone. It gets depressing and lonely. I physically felt better after the first week, the bleeding stopped after 2, and you may spot for a bit longer.

I recently found out that my first loss was due to an infection and partial placenta abruption. The 2nd is still being looked at. I had a number of bleeding episodes in the early 2nd tri, so they think it is possible there was another infection. It also may have been a partial clotting disorder. We are waiting for the blood tests to come back in the next week or so.

The waiting is the hardest part. Keep on your doctors to get answers. Sometimes they take their time. If I had my first results prior to this last pregnancy, we may have been able to save our son or at least prolong it until viability.

If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me.

I, too, had a ton of bleeding in the first tri (and once in the 2nd tri) with this pregnancy...  (originally it was a twin preg) when I go in for my 4 week checkup, I think I am going to request they test me for bleeding disorders also. Thank you so much for the advice... it's seriously greatly appreciated.

  • I am so sorry for your losses.  I hope you can find some comfort here on this board, and please feel free to ask any other questions you have.  Figgs answered your previous question pretty well.  I was told to only stand with my back towards the shower to keep the water pressure from stimulating me.  I also wore the tight sports bras, and tight shirts 24/7 and took advil.  I hope you get some answers and that the answers can bring you at least a tiny bit of peace.   (((HUGE HUGS)))

  • Sorry to welcome you to this board :-( I lost my twin boys at 22w3d two weeks ago. I started spotting and went to the hospital where my water broke. They couldn't do anything. Like you, I had an epidural and had to deliver them. It's been so sad and horrible to go through what you and I went through. I went back to work on Friday and went to Atlantic city with my husband for the weekend. It might help you to get away for a weekend. Being in the house was making me crazy and depressed. I don't know why my water broke and my dr. has no clue. She will send me to an hematologist. Hugs
  • I'm sorry for the loss of your sweet boys. This is a wonderful group of girls. I hope you find comfort here. I saw that you have a bicornuate uterus, just like me. :)

  • I'm so sorry about your long IF journey, and losses of Twin B and your sweet son Hudson. I also lost my babies after IVF and I feel angry that I went through so much trouble to get pregnant when undeserving people can get pregnant so easily, and then I also had to go through a late loss. It is so unfair and cruel and heartbreaking that we have to start the process all over again. (((hugs)))  Welcome to the board. Everyone on here is so kind and supportive!
