When she was tiny she refused to be put down, so I would say time *out* of hands was when she was sleeping at night and on average 1 hour a day for things like tummy time and play time. Luckily DH was around ALOT to help. He works from home.
As she got older she really liked to play, and she started crawling around at 6 months, so she was down much more for play time. I would have loved to put her in a swing or bouncy or something but she would last 5 minutes and then scream. I learned to do everything with her in the moby, or it just didn't get done.
As an infant we did not hold LO that much, he had a new neck issues so we started tummy time from day one and liked it. So I could lay him on the floor in whatever room I was in and he was happy. Now that he is older I wear him when ever I am out of the house. If we are home his is crawling around or in his high chair playing/eating.
**Side note, I work full time outside the home so I am not home with LO during hte day. But I think if I was I would wear LO more.**

Those first couple months we held him all the time, except for when he was sleeping at night. Then from about 3-6 months he could do 10 mins in hid jumper or bounce seat. Only now at 7 months is he able to really play on the ground with minimal interaction.
At first he would only sleep when held, so I wore him a lot. He would chill in his swing, but refused to sleep there so it got limited use. Now I don't wear him around the house as much unless he's already bundled up from a walk outside or walking the dog. And I use the bouncer when he's congested - I stick him in the bathroom with me while I shower.
Uhm we get held all day, everyday and 90% of the night.... There is very little time that he is not being held, he may sleep in his swing for a half an hour in the mornings...When DH gets home he holds him so I can shower and cook and then he is back to me....
We did start babywearing some so I can clean the kitchen in the afternoon, so he is in the sling for maybe an hour if that, long enough to load a dishwasher and fold his laundry. DH has been doing the rest of the laundry.
