Burping tricks or tips?

My little one is refusing to burp for me. Does anybody have any little tricks to get out those burps? I have had a little luck bouncing her, but it hasn't worked lately.

  • I do the "milkshake" technique rec'd by Dr. Karp (from Happiest Baby On The Block).  Check out the youtube video!

  • Thanks for posting the link Library Chica.

I also bounce DS on my knee as I burp him to try to help him along.

  • I start off bouncing her on my knee. Then I'll put her in a sitting position on my lap and lean her forward into her knees, then pull her back up. It's kind of like the technique of raising the baby's legs up to their chest while they're on their back, but I never got her to burp doing that, and I frequently get her to burp when I do it this way. If that doesn't work, I put her on my shoulder and rub her back pretty rigorously, almost as if I'm trying to warm her up, and I'll do it in an up/down motion in an effort to coax the air up. I'll also walk around with a bounce to my step while she's on my shoulder and pat her back. I'll just go back through these steps until she seems to be comfortable. I also had her doing tummy time today and she got out all sorts of gas just lying there, so general pressure on the tummy area should help, too!
