Trying to Get Pregnant

Vitamins

Question: Is three months on prenatal vitamins the minimum before TTC? Thanks!

Re: Vitamins

  • I don't think that there is a minimum, which is to say that there is no need to wait 3 months if you are ready now, but it certainly does not hurt to start on prenatals early.

  • There really isn't a minimum. Some people do not even take them while pregnant. Its never a bad idea to take a multivitamin so you can start talking prenatals at any time. They are really nothing more than a multi vitamin with extra folic acid.

  • If you're planning ahead, that's a good marker.  However, if you end up pregnant earlier, you and the baby will be just fine.

Like everything else in this crazy ballgame of TTC, you do the best you can.  :)

  • A lot of my friends started taking prenatals a couple months before they started TTC.  I started taking them as soon as I got off BCP only because we had pushed our TTC up from our original date, therefore I wasn't as prepared as I would have liked to be.  If I had been prepared, I probably would have bought them a couple of months before TTC.
  • I don't believe there is a minimum. My doctor had me start PNV as soon as I told her we were TTC.

  • My dr just told me to make sure to start taking 800mcg of folic acid daily and to take a PNV when I get pregnant. I've started the folic acid and we are going off of BCP next month.
