Peanut Butter - When did you/do you plan to give to LO?

Just wondering when you were going to give your LO peanut butter. DS#2 has eaten a couple pieces of peanut butter cereal and some peanut butter cookie - thanks DS#1!! And he hasn't had a reaction. I plan to ask at his 15 month appt, but I am thinking that DS#2 will be okay with adding peanut butter in his foods.

  • We gave it around 15 months, and he now eats it regularly.

  • DD's dr said she could have it at her 9 mo appt.  So, she's been eating it since then with no issues.

  • We were clear to have everything at 1 year old.  He likes it.

  • DD had her first PB&J on Sunday. She thankfully had no reaction. I'm not sure she cares much for it though either.

We had given her tastes of it here and there, I was really scared she'd have a reaction but she is fine.

  • DS (10 months) has had tastes of it. We don't really have food allergies/sensitivities in our family so I wasn't worried.

  • The pedi gave the okay at their one year appointment.  I gave both of the boys peanut butter on toast.  One of them started swelling up immediately.  When you try it, make sure you have Children's Benadryl nearby just in case.

  • We got the okay at his one-year appointment. He has a PB&J at least once a week. Never had any issues (though we have no allergies in our family).

  • It was probably around 13 or 14 months. He likes it, but doesn't love it.
  • I am going to ask at our one year appointment, and see what our pedi says at that time.  I'd like to give it to him sooner rather than later.  He has had some other nut products, such as almond milk, etc. that haven't caused any problems.

  • We gave it around 11 months.

  • Our pedi advised us to wait until age 2, even though no close family members have allergies.  We rarely have pb in the house anyway, so I'm not in a rush.

  • We rubbed some on his leg around 15 mo to check for a skin reaction and then gave it to DS.  We also had Children's Benadryl on hand just in case.

This. I gave it to DS around a year old, and he did pretty well. The last time he had it he swelled pretty good in the mouth and face. Took him to the pedi who diagnosed a peanut allergy. Took him to the allergy dr. who did a skin test for peanut allergies and that came back positive as well. The allergist did say that peanut allergies can take a while to build before someone shows a reaction. I would just be careful, and do as the PP said about the benadryl.

  • C had peanut butter around 9 months. My family is not familiar with allergies (dont ask) and he had already been given nut based cookies to nom on by that time, so we went and gave him a pb&j to make it official. Neither DH's family nor mine have any food based allergies.

This. She didn't like it at first and still doesn't love it as a sandwich item. She likes to dip crackers in it though. Smile

  • I gave it to DD around 10 / 11 months...
  • DS1 would break out from it until he was past two, but now he eats it constantly. DS2 was 12 months or so when he first had it, and he didn't have any reaction, so has been eating it since.

  • 12 months. She is allergic, so she eats almond butter.
  • He has had it already, thankfully no allergies to it to this point.

  • DD was about 10 mos.  I gave it to her on toast to start because the warmth of it thinned the PB a little bit.  Ditto PP's regarding keeping the Benedryl handy just in case.
  • We waited until DS was 19 months.  He had no reaction.  He didn't care for it at first but now loves it.

  • We gave it at 15 months in the parking lot at his peds office...lol.  He did great and has had zero reactions.  He LOVES it!  I will put PB on a ritz cracker and he licks the PB off before eating the cracker.  He is just like daddy and I....we CANNOT live w/o our PB!  lol

  • DD had her first taste of nuts a little after 1 year, thanks to people who dont always think things through (i.e. MIL and my brother) it was basically things cooked with nuts. About a month ago I gave DD some of my peanut butter sandwich and she was fine. We have no allergy history.

  • DD tried it for the first time around 11 mos. She loves it!
  • With DD1, I waited until after 2 years, and it took her a long time before she'd even eat peanut butter.

DD2 got peanut butter shortly after her first birthday.

  • At our last pedi visit, they told us 2 years for all nuts is the new recommendations. But with DS, it was 1 year.  So we did all nuts at 1 year already.
