DD is named Kaylee (we got her name from the TV show Firefly/movie Serenity). Her middle name, Marie, is mine and my grandmothers middle name. Our daughter, dog and cat are all named from "nerdy" sources (sci fi show, video games, japanese anime).
I wanted to continue the trend with our next little one - so for a boy Damon (inspired by Vampire Diaries) - middle name will be Thomas (DHs middle name/FILs first name) or Cora (inspired by Tron - though hers was spelt Quorra) - middle name TBD though leaning towards Rose (my grandma was Lillian, my mom Suzanne - which means Lily. I can't use Lily so I liked the idea of another flower name. Plus my FIL fought in Vietnam and there were Fire Bases, the two next two each other were Marie and Rose - seemed like a sign!)
Disclaimer: we are NOT naming our kids after these characters, it's more of where we heard the name.
Where did you hear your name from? A baby book? Family name? Famous Person? TV or Movie?
Re: Where did your LOs name come from?
We haven't decided on names yet, though the plan is to give a DD my middle name (also Marie), and a DS for his middle name my DH's name (Jason). The first names will just be names that we like.
Can I add though that our cats are named after anime characters? Well, two of them are, the third name I made up to sound Japanese but it sounds pretty.
Also, love Firefly!
Our kitty is Chobi - it was from a Japanese Haiku in the special features of Voices from a Distant Star (which if you've never seen I recommend it)
Puppy is Tifa from Final Fantasy (I think 7)
The first names we have picked are from baby name books/websites. They are just 2 names that we both liked and both agreed on. For the middle names we decided to use DH's first name as a middle name for a boy. We where having a hard time comng up with a girl's middle name that we liked, so we decided to do the same thing for a girl and give her my first name as a middle name.
Our name choices are Tristan Michael and Avery Kristine.
I think middle name choices are a great way to carry on family names, honor parents or pass down traditions. I hope my daughter will pass her middle name to her daughter.
I love Avery BTW - I had a co-worker several years ago name his daughter Avery - I couldn't get behind it then but it has really grown on me.
We considered Lucas with a nickname of Luke for the exact same reason! We are doing a Star Wars nursery though if it's a boy. (Ok and if it's a girl)
My best friend named her daughter Kaylee Marie- such a pretty name! My son is William Hunter. I have always loved the name William. Despite what my MIL thinks he isn't named after anyone. MIL thinks we wanted to continue the name from DHs Great Uncle who I met once and disliked. Hunter was because DHs family is huge into hunting and my son was due on deer hunting opener. It is just a strong name I love!
We have not yet come up with a boys name (really didnt till the delivery room with DS). For a girl I love Lucy Helen. Lucy is a name I have loved since I was in middle school. Helen would be afte my Grandmother who passed away in January.
Our girl name will be Alice Diane. Alice is one of those names that you have always known so it doesn't really 'come from' anywhere. Although when I first presented it to DH as an option he made a face and I brought up Alice Cooper and he was sold, haha. Diane is a family name (DH's aunt)
Our boy names are way more up in the air. Middle name will either be Conley (after my grandpa) or my maiden name.
Baby Girl Lennon born sleeping 6-18-11 Baby Boy Anderson born healthy and happy 8-17-12
Well funny story is we had both agreed on the name Hannah Grace for DD before we started TTC since we both really liked it and also liked that it was a Bible name. Turns out that my Great Grandfather (like 10th Great) was named JoHannah and my Great Great Grandmother was named Grace. There is also a Grace on DH's side of the family. So it ended up being a family name.
For this baby, we like Claire Annie for a girl. Claire is just a name we like but Annie was my Grandmother's name. We were really close and she passed away a few years ago so I would like to honor her by using her name as a MN.
For a boy, we don't have a first name picked out yet but we want to use James as a MN since its DH's name and if I love it so much that if it wasn't for the whole Jr. thing, I would name my son James as a first name in a second!
Tristen is my son's name, I fell in love with it back in the 90's when Legend of the Fall came out and Brad Pitt played Tristan. I also had a friend when I was younger with the name. I've always wanted to name my boy that name. Dh had no choice. He did choose the middle name which is Wyatt, I think he just heard it and liked it. No meaning behind it.
I love the meaning of Tristen since it's really about a person not so much a "thing". I love the story of the origin as well.
For this baby, if it's a Girl her name will be Rory (middle name undecided) Which I guess is more of a boys name, but sounds feminine to me. Means "Red King" which is great since DH's name is Ryan and that means "little king".
If it's a boy his name will be Caden, which means Battle. We really love old names that have strong meanings obviously! haha.
if it is a boy it will either be Caleb Joshua or Cooper Joshua. Joshua is my DH's name, and caleb is from the bible character, cooper is my maiden last name (both kids were girls so it would be nice to carry on my dad's name)
if it is a girl it will be Brooke Elizabeth. Brooke is my middle name and Elizabeth is my sister's first name.
Our oldest cat is Kirara from Inu Yasha, the second is Kuro from Trigun (and yes, he's a black cat), and the third is Kireiko. Her name is made up, but we wanted to continue the K theme, and since Kirei is the exclamation for beautiful and ko is a common name ending meaning child, I like to think it means pretty child.
And I did like Voices from a Distant Star. Good choice.
Our DS is Cole Jeffrey. My father (Nicholas) is named after my grandfather and when I came along, they named me Nicole. My DH wasn't thrilled with the name Nicholas even though I love it, so it started out as a joke when I said how about Cole after me (and therefore my dad and grandfather) and it stuck. Jeffrey is DH's name.
It's hard to name LO #2 because I feel like DS' name is very meaningful. I love the names Dean & Reagan but they have nothing to do with our family, just names we like. MNs would be family names most likely at least.
We like Dean from Supernatural, but our son also wouldn't be named after the character. I just like the name. :-)
Alexis Erin - I just liked the first name, saw it in a baby name book, but Erin is from my sister(4 years old) who died when I was pregnant. (She was Tristan Erin)
Logan Orman- I had originally picked the 1st name Parker, but changed it after reading a magazine article in my doctor's office. Orman is my grandpa's middle name. A little odd, but it fits.
Gunnar Lee- Gunnar was the name my husband loved. Lee is my husband's middle name.
This baby- we have no idea on first names- we have completely different taste in first names. For a girl we will either have the two middle names Della Jeanette (my great gma's name followed by his mom's name) or Ann Jeanette (my gma's name followed by his mom's name.) and for a boy our middle name will likely be David (DH's first name) or Wayne (my dad's middle name and DH's grandpa's middle name)
I like carrying on family names in the middle name slot, and so does DH, but first names are a horrible battle for us!
DS #1 is named after my dad. Reed is his mn and was his mother's maiden name. It also helped that I absolutely loved the name.
DS#2 was a lot harder to name. He was originally going to be Owen Michael (like for 30 + weeks). Then I started hearing Owen EVERYWHERE and it started to grind on me. I decided it was too trendy for us. I was randomly watching a baby story episode when the big brother on the show was named Pierce. I had scoured the baby names board and for some reason never really considered Pierce, but seeing it on the show and hearing it was really endearing for some reason. I called DH and he liked it. We didn't commit to it until we had read through the top 1000 names on the SSA list. His MN (Dean) is FIL's mn. I love Dean and sort of wish I saved it for #3. I was worried that they would get called Reedo and Deano.
The only thing settled for this baby is the mn's. Girl mn will be Beryl (which is my FN, mom's FN, late grandmother's FN and late great-aunt's fn..phew). Boy's mn will be Murray (late grandmother's maiden name). FN's will probably just be names we love. Right now considering Grant, Noel, Brooks for boy and Isla, Paige, Aurora for girl.
the one's we've chosen are all family names, although the first names come from about 100 years back on the tree. we're oddball's and like to have 2 middlenames as well.
our boy name, Jasper, actually came from DH great grandfather Casper, but we didn't think we could stand naming him after a ghost, friendly or not. so as DH and his sister's names start with J, we decided on Jasper instead. i know its old fashioned, but its a name they can grow into like their MN Andrew and William (recent family names from our parents generation). I also like Andrew because i would have been Andrew Scott or Scott Andrew if i had been a boy (have the paper my mom wrote name combos out on somewhere).

Rainbow Born 8/22, so in love with our little girl!
We just pick names we like, and we like more old fashion names.
DS is Jack Ryan.
This LO will be Amelia or Charlie.

Baby #4 edd 2/11/19
Cameron is just a name we both liked that went with our last name. His middle name is after my grandpa.
For this baby, no idea on first name yet. Our last name is one syllable and beginning with a vowel so it's hard to find names that go with it--it needs to be a multi-syllable name and some endings kind of blend right into the last name so they don't work. I think we will wait to find out the sex and then decide. The middle name will again be a family name.
DD's name is Suraya and I got the name from a coworker who was helping me choose names. I was having a hard time picking a name until he mentioned that one. There's nothing special about it I just loved the name.
This one is hard to choose for as well. If it's a boy so far we have Ashton Cole or Ryder. No clue which we would choose. As for a girl, yea...so lost on that one.
CRAFTY ME
my read shelf:
We are going with Aubrey Kate for a girl, middle name after my aunt. The first name was one that SO and I both loved and baby was concieved the night of a Drake concert and coincidently his first name is Aubrey.
For a boy we are going with Tyler Thomas. Thomas is the name of his godfather and SO is a Jr. but I preferred to not go that route so a boy would keep the same initials as him for a compromise.
