How is it going for you?

Lately DS will yank his head to the side quickly while he is eating, which rips the shield off and spills the milk all over. So frustrating. He is just so wiggly when he eats, which is part of the reason we need to use the shield. He can't stay latched on long enough to eat without it. I think I am going to start phasing in formula feedings a little bit for my sanity. EP sounds so time consuming, but I may pump a little more often so he still gets breast milk too.

I love/hate using the shield. I have inverted nipples which is why we use it. I am trying to wean her off of using it since, after almost 3 months, DD has pretty successfully un-inverted my nipples. I just don't feel like she eats as well when I am able to get her to latch without it. Almost like she's confused and isn't too sure about the new situation. It is very frustrating, like you said, when she pulls off and spills milk all over, (I usually stuff a receniving blanket under her mouth to try to stop her from spilling all over herself and me!) and slides it all over. It's one of those things you love and hate becuase it helps you feed your baby but can be annoying at the same time!!

Doing just fine here! I've tried without it here and there because it makes NIP way more awkward but I'm getting more skilled at getting it on one handed and we'll likely use it for the duration of our nursing relationship. It does get frustrating when she yanks it off and I get all set up and she yanks it off again. I usually find that if I'm having a rough time feeding her she's more tired than anything and I'll try putting her to sleep instead

DS has been doing that too! He'll get super fidgety after a while and rip off the shield. Maybe try a longer size so it stays in their mouth?

My daughter has been ripping it off at nearly every feeding too, but then she instantly re-latches without it, so I think we may soon be able to go nipple shield free! She still has trouble latching at first without it, but I'm hoping that won't last forever. I didn't know they made longer sizes though? What brand does everyone use?

I use the Medela brand. I didn't realize they had different sizes. Medela is the only brand my Target had.

I also use Medela and it does come in different sizes. I currently use a size small.

My LO does the same thing. Although I do have to mention that this week we have been doing a great job at weaning off the nipple shield. I hope we continue to have success.

Medela brand has different sizes. I started using the small cause I thought the medium was too big for DD's mouth, but the LC said it's supposed to be based on moms nipple size, and that using a size too small can make it harder for LO to get the milk causing them to fussy and fight more because it't not coming out as fast as they want, or would without the shield.

I use the bigger size Medela. I tried Tommy Tippee and it hurt (too much friction). The medela forces her to open her mouth wide and latch well. I just tuck a burp cloth under her mouth into my bra to catch all the spills. I've tried to wean, was in pain, and decided like Smilelari that for the rest of our time nursing, the NS will remain.
