Touching my belly already??? Ugghh!!

Last night I went to my grandparents for dinner. We saw my uncle and his wife for the first time since getting pregnant.  When they saw me they rubbed my stomach and my uncle's wife said "Awww look at your little pooch!!"  I have a little bloat bump...don't touch me!!! WTH?

Has anyone ever said anything to anyone when they've touched your stomach??

Re: Touching my belly already??? Ugghh!!

  • The first time I saw my MIL after DH told her about our BFP she came up and put her hand on my stomach... I was only like 5 weeks at the time. It freaked me out. DH told her not to do that again, lol.

He's my fairytale, a dream when I'm not sleeping.

  • The only people who ever touched my stomach when I was pregnant with my son were family & friends - I didn't mind it because I touch them anyway.  (Hugs, kisses, etc.)

Thankfully I never had a stranger feel it was OK to rub my belly.

  • I'm chubby to begin with--i'm 5'11'' and wear an 18-20 in clothes.  If anyone would touch my stomach I'd tell them that's not baby, that's just fluff.

I don't understand why people think it's socially acceptable to touch people's bellies.  I've done it when people specifically say "Feel the baby move."

Unfortunately it's a hard spot to be in....you can't tell people "Dont do that" without being offensive.  Maybe try touching them back and when they look at you weird just respond with "yea, that's weird, huh?"

  • UGHH! YES my MIL literlly tried to shove her hand down my pants after we told her the news and I was 8 weeks I told her to "get away from me and pulled my knees to my chest" it was all nice though I laughed (I don't want to sound like Bi**H), but REALLY!? and then also a coworker did that to me in the teachers lounge and I was like WTH!! I said " please don't do that, especially since not everyone knows" some people... SMH

  • I say: "Oh yeah...that's just my constipation.  I'm REALLY backed up."

That usually does the trick  Wink

No one has touched my stomach other than DH...he's allowed to do that, and he rarely does anyway. lol

However his uncle bent down and put his head next to my stomach. He's lucky we were at a funeral, and I like him, or he would have had some not so nice words said to him.

    @amanda: WTF.

umm yea I know lol... Just as a backstory my DH and I started dating in h/s and and for my birthday one time his mom got me a gift card to victoria secret because I loved thier pajamas...well she gave it to me in front of his grandma and when she saw where the gift card was from she says "oh my, do you like to wear those thong things" and I SWEAR TO GOD.....stuck her hand down that back of my pants to grab my underwear/bum!! i was a senior in h/s at the time and about jumped out of my skin... I guess I should have known then that inappropriatness runs in the family

  • My mom and little sister both got shut down when they touched my belly at my aunt's wake. I'm not showing at all, and it embarrassed me. I don't feel comfortable with people touching my stomach anyways, not even massage people. Grosses me out :/ I just told both mom and sister to please stop. They were really annoyed, but hopefully got the point. It's not something I can help, I don't like it.

  • My inlaws have already started ignoring me and talking to my belly, which is really nothing more than a bloat bump too. I even said, "hello?, remember me up here?"

Ugh...I was hoping they would do better this time. They did the same thing the entire time I was pg with DS.

  • I had a parent at school come up and rub my non-belly BEFORE I was pregnant! That was weird!

  • Ugh, my mom and sister do it all the time.  And, when I try to tell people that the "bump" they are seeing isn't baby, it's bloat...they all look at me with their all knowing expression and say "no, that's baby..."  Um no it's not.,  I know my body better than you...trust me...when I take a sh!t in an hour, it'll go away.  smh...

  • No one's touched this early but it's not really something that bothers me. If they were touching my leftover pooch after the babies were born, then I'd probably cry.

  • My DH's grandma passed away last week. There were relatives at the funeral I barely knew or even met because they're from out of town and even THEY were randomly rubbing my stomach. It was very uncomfortable. I'm 10 weeks and barely have a pouch showing. I kept my coat on and buttoned so it would stop......ugh.

  • I would dodge this lady at work when I was pg with DD because she would talk to my belly all the time. I am dreading running into her this pregnancy. Please help me!
  • Its even weirder when its someone you don't know. Like walking through your local walmart and some one comes up to you and is like Awww! I'm like umm that is inappropriate.

On this topic I also hated it when DD was still really little and I had to go to the grocery and people would walk up and try to touch her. I was like uh you didn't wash your hands and I don't know you. People are really weird like that

  • My MIL at least asked the other day if she could touch. But then I said no, and she did anyway.  We had words after that...
