Hi-
I have been diagnosed with an ovarian cyst on the right side and I am looking to obtain a second opinion regarding the course of treatment. My current OB/GYN says surgery is the only option, but that could have a negative impact on my fertility. Does anyone have a recommendations for a doctor in the NOVA/DC? Thanks for all of your help.
Re: 2nd opinion for ovarian cyst
I just wanted to say that I had surgery for an ovarian cyst on my right ovary 15 years ago, and was able to have a kid no problem. My cyst required surgery because it was the kind that has solid mass inside of it (dermoid cyst) - these don't resolve themselves. Sometimes, they can tell this based on what the imaging looks like.
We're having a little trouble trying for #2, but it doesn't have anything to do with the cyst removal. Depending on how big the cyst is, make sure you see someone sooner rather than later - I know people that have required emergency surgery because the cyst caused ovarian torsion.
I'm in MoCo, so recommending my OB/gyn probably wouldn't be any help (and, they aren't the ones that dealt with my cyst, anyway...)
Good luck!
I just found I have a cyst but my OB said it'll resolve on its own. I go back in 2 months for a repeat U/S to make sure it was either absorbed or it burst. We are done having kids. I would check your insurance policy to see which OBs take your insurance and get a 2nd opinion ASAP. Not removing it may cause bigger issues.
good luck!
I have one on my right side as well, that bugger is such a pain.
Surgery is my only option.
If you are uncomfortable with your doctors recommendation you should definitely seek a second opinion.
