Mom Groups

I found meetup.com and joined there and actually started my own group. Are there other online websites out there. Google just brought up a bunch of crap.

If anyone does these groups, how do you like them? I feel like DD is too young and BFing can pose an issue with some events, but I NEED to make some friends :)

Re: Mom Groups

  • I belong to my chapter of the International Mom's Club (www.momsclub.org) - LOVE it!!!! Lots to do.

Oh, and BFing doesn't pose an issue with any events. If a mom needs to nurse, then she just does so at the event. I'm not sure how it could pose an issue unless you are uncomfortable about nursing in public (i've nursed both kids and will nurse #3).

    GL!?

  • I'm a member of a national Mom's group and it's great.  I also do a Mommy and Me group at my church, it's good as well.

  • Thanks for the info! Yeah, I am a little uncomfortable nursing in public. DD gets upset if I cannot see what I am doing and I guess I just feel silly. I know most people don't care if I nurse so I guess it is just my issue.
  • I have heard great things about Cafemom.com and Yahoo Groups (you have to do some searching for a Yahoo Mom's Group in your area).  Try googling "New Parent Support ___ (city/state)".

I joined a local group through my Hospital here in CA and they are my best friends.  We started when the babies were 8 weeks old and they are now over 2 years old!

Best of luck in your search!!!

  • How about La Leche League? All the moms will be nursing so maybe that will help you feel more comfortable! :) It's a great place to meet other new moms! good luck!
  • I'm a member of a meetup.com group in my area and all of the moms have babies under a year old.  The breastfeeding thing hasn't been a problem I guess because all of us have to feed our kids.  It's no big thing!  As for going out to events, our events have been simple - Starbucks, play group at a mom's house, the park... Nothing too much since we have such little ones.
