Wrap or a sling for a newborn?

I work from home and really need to be hands free alot.  I have heard that slings hurt after short periods of time.  Which is better for a newborn - a sling or wrap?  I want to try an Ergo when he gets a little bigger.  We live in GA and LO is due in April, so we are talking about a hot summer.  Any advice is appreciated.

 Thanks!

Re: Wrap or a sling for a newborn?

  • I prefer my sling at this stage (newborn to 1month so far) as she is tiny and my shoulder only hurts when I would wear my older child.

  • I can't say that I've tried a wrap, but I can say that my ring sling is still very comfy with my 3mo old.
  • Asymmetrical carries hurt my back, so a sling has never been realistic for me. I've wrapped DS since he was 1 day old.

  • I could never get the hang of a sling so I have always used my wrap.

  • I think it depends how truly hands free you need to be. I find a sling to be really easy to pop them in and out of and really liked it for this with DD. However I feel that a wrap is more completly hands free because you can wrap it to give LO even more neck support than the sling. In your case I would look for a gauze wrap. I love my Calin Bleu. I would not use a moby. I think you will be too hot. Normally strechy wraps are the way to go for newborns but I would go with gauze in your case.
