I'm contemplating going this route - any books you can recommend?
My main question is do you introduce foods at the same time as you do with purees (like no dairy or meat until 9 months)? Or is it just kind of a free for all?

Chunky Monkey
I did BLW with DS1 and plan to do the same with DS2. The book I read was called "Baby-led Weaning" by Gill Hapley.
We basically just gave him what we were eating from the beginning. He didn't eat much at all at first and through pressure from my pedi (which today I would just ignore but I didn't know better then) I started giving purees around 9 months to get him to eat more.
We didn't really follow any rules as far as what to introduce when. We don't have food allergies in either of our families so I wasn't very worried about that. Although I will add I tried to stick to mostly fruits/veggies in the early days and tried to avoid grains until later, just because I've read some things about digestion and grains being harder for them to digest and possibly causing allergies if given too early.
We are BLWing. We only started maybe a week and a half ago? ...he gets whatever we're eating. I don't restrict anything except for honey, whole nuts, and probably will delay shellfish a few months if not a year.
I mentioned BLW to my ped at last week's appt (she'd never heard of it) and specifically asked this question. She said that there was nothing that was necessary to restrict diet wise save the honey and pb usuals. Oh, and eggs. My ped says no eggs? I think this is more controversial.
I even mentioned cooking with cream sauces (and using raw milk in them) and she thought it was fine.
That said, we haven't given H much variety yet. I tend to cook with a lot of salt and I need to cut that out before I pass stuff on to her. Tomorrow night is pad thai. That might be interesting.
We are trying some b,w and also purees because I'm worried about choking (bc dd has choked on vomit). I haven't given her much of what we've eaten but she gnaws on zucchini spears, apple slices, banana chunks. She's gagged a few times but she mainly gums stuff and spits it out or swallows it.
I cook with too much salt as well, I need to cut back on that.
We're doing some BLW and some chunkier purees. DD had ground beef for the first time last night (homemade spaghetti sauce and meatballs) and she's had moose and caribou. As for dairy, I'm not giving her cows milk to drink but will give her yogourt. I've also held back on gluten due to Celiacs/sensitivities in SO and his nephew. We have a Dr. appt. on Thursday and I'm going to ask about the gluten then.
We don't tend to cook with a lot of salt, but we're still trying to trim it down for DD's sake. We do tend to cook a lot of curry's, but she hasn't had any of those yet.
