Baby Names

What do you think about the name Brienne for a girl?

We have been trying to come up with names for our baby girl for a while, and can't seem to agree on much. If we do agree, we don't like the name for very long :)

My husband likes the name Brienne. I like it, but am not sure about it yet. We could call her Bri. What do you think? What middle names could go with Brienne? We have a long last name (4 syllables). Thanks

Re: What do you think about the name Brienne for a girl?

  • Never heard of Brienne.  What about Brianne or Brianna?  You could still call her Bri.  Brienne sounds a little made up/cre8tive.
  • I prefer the spelling of Brianne even though the name is NMS.

It looks and sounds like a yoo-neek spelling / pronunciation of Brian.

Honestly, I think it is pretty bad. I cannot stand made-up names.

And while I don't care for these names in the slightest, how about: Brenna, Brianna, Brianne, or Brynn.

Totally.  Sounds kinda stripper-esque to me.  Just add glitter.

  • Is he a Game of Thrones fan?  That's the only place I've heard it.  The character is brave but not traditionally feminine and apparently very ugly.
  • I've not met anyone with that name, but have met a Brie. I gather it's a variation of Brie. Seems fine to me.

  • I don't particularly care for it, but it's not awful.

  • I know a woman who is Bree. Just Bree. If that's the name you like, I think it's nice, simple, and clean.

For whatever reason, the other "Bree" names (Brianne, Brianna, Brielle) all evoke trashiness to me.

Except Gabrielle. You could name her Gabrielle and call her Bri.

  • I have a Brienne on my facebook that I met on vacation last year.  She was a lovely girl and a college student at U Conn.  I don't mind the name and don't think it is made up.  If you and your hubby like it then use it!

  • My cousin-in-law's wife is named Brienne. I've never known how to say it and none of DH's family does either. We kind of flip back and forth between BREE-IN and BREE-ANN but she has yet to clarify. I don't think it's a bad name, just really confusing.
