Ok so what are your thoughts on Luna? I am searching for a unique but pretty girl name., so if you hate Luna please feel free to suggest another name.

I really like it! We have sort-of friends who have 2 daughters, Luna and Ruby. Both are cute but will age well IMO.

I find it pretty and interesting. I think it was rumored to be Victoria Beckham's daughter's name while she was pregnant- although she used Harper. I do think some kids could make fun of it and call her Lunatic.

One of my friends mentioned that she can't see past the "lunatic" association, and now I can't either. So thumbs down.

Also, since Harry Potter, I don't think the name is really considered "unique" anymore. (though it is far from being popular too)

I don't do Harry Potter either and I never once thought of lunatic, and the girl I know named Luna is now 6 years old. There are certainly worse things.

I don't consider "Luna" a name, sorry, maybe a surname. To me it just means "moon" in Spanish. Lana is pretty.

I think it's pretty in theory, but it reminds me of the word lunatic and all that stuff about a full moon (making crazy people crazier).

If you're searching for something unique but pretty, I'll always suggest Monica. Other choices that come to mind are Clementine, Scarlett, Tallulah, Marlo, Francesca, Grey, Valencia, and Temperance.

I love Luna.

Other unique and pretty girl names I love are Ophelia and Seraphina.

Also, DD's name is Marin, which I think is unique and pretty , though not super girly.

If this baby had been a girl there's about a 75% chance she would have been Ruby.

Also, just curious about what you call your son. Do you call him Kai for a nn, or does he usually go by Malakai? I've liked this name for a while ... now if only I can get DH on board.

I've never brought it up to him before.

We call him both Malakai and Kai. I love the name and it's just unusual enough without being crazy.

Actually, Luna Lovegood is a pretty major character in the fifth and sixth books in the Harry Potter series. She also has one of the largest Harry Potter character fanbases ever and a very large collection of fanboys, thanks to the actress who played her in the movies, Ivana Lynch.

But, yeah, there definitely are bound to be fewer references now that the franchise is over. It'll probably be bigger once the movies are remade, but that probably won't be for another 20 or so yrs.

I say go for it.

I like it but it is very spanish to me. It's pretty and not TOO unusual, so if you and H love it, use it.

It doesn't really make me think of Harry Potter but just outer space in general. My first thought is that luna means moon is spanish. Second thought is looney and lunatic or lunar space craft. I just really don't like the name. I love Lena though.
