First off! It was an amazingly organized race. Props to all the people involved and what a cause!!.
It was FREEEEEZING. At 6:30 am when the race started it was 27 degrees with a wind chill factor of 21. The run was awesome - water & sports drink stations in the alternate miles. We even ran on the beach for about half a mile or so. It was a beautiful view - bright sun - ass busting cold - and they had a helicopter hovering. It was one for the memory archives. Did I mention it was freezing?
We drank and ate every 2 miles. I invested in a fuel belt that had 4 (10 ounce) bottles and a compartment for the chews.
Mile 8 - my knees were starting to hurt due to the cold. We had our hats, gloves, compression pants, layers of armour t-shirts and long sleeve shirts. I forgot my turtle neck compression shirt but I managed. Mile 10-13 were off the chain. Back up the big bridge with the wind blowing against us. There was music almost every 2 miles and even a few bands. The locals were AWESOME - cheering us on.
This was one of the most physically painful things I have gone through, but I did it. I felt strong but the cold really did a number on my joints. I recovered at home, stretched, and got a massage yesterday for good measure.
I encourage all of you ladies to at least once, train for a half marathon.
Re: Back from the Donna Jax Half Marathon!!!!
I started out with triathons and that is really my passion. I think the next project will be doing an Olympic triathlon.
