Palpitations

Anyone with heart palpitations or fluttering? I have gotten heart palpitations or something starting 10 years ago one day in college. Doctors sort of blow it off as anxiety. It comes on unexpected and I feel like I have to cough to "reset" it. Anyone experience anything similar ? I'm 8 weeks pregnant and have has it a few times and was just curious. Thanks!!

I would talk to your OB and let them know it's been going on for a while, but more frequently with PG. It's better to tell them even if it isn't significant

I had the same during my last pregnancy with my DD. My OB sent me to my primary care, they did an EKG and also sent me home with a heart monitor on for 24 hours. Everything seemed to look normal and I am still here. Wink

I have had it a few times with this pregnancy too, but am trying to just relax and not focus on it. Our hearts are working hard right now - but with all that being said, I would mention it to your dr. It's better to be safe than sorry!

You might check your pulse. My heart rate has been really high since about 6 weeks. Which gives me that racing heart feeling. My doctor put me on a beta blocker to slow things down. It really helps.

I would definitely bring it up to your doctor though. Hope you start feeling better!!!

Have them run a blood test on your thyroid

I get that when my thyroid is off and ten years ago they diagnosed me with anxiety, it wasn't. You may also get chest tightness, again if you don't feel anxious its probably not anxiety. Good luck.

Thanks ladies! I was hyperthyroid for several months about two yeas ago, and it has since gone back to normal. It is thought to be post-partum related. However these palpitations weren't any more or less common during that time. Sometimes I go weeks without feeling it and sometimes it's once or twice a day. But usually I'm just sitting there, not feeling anxious or anything. But dr just tells me it's anxiety. I will mention to ob though tomorrow. Thanks!

Good luck I am HYPO and my symptoms are more HYPER thyroidism which isn't uncommon. also you can have both. I recommend porcine over armour :0)

I have them quite a bit when pregnant. My Dr said it's not really a concern. It does freak me out though when I'm feeling my own pulse and my heart is skipping a beat.

I had them A LOT with my first pregnancy. Even saw a cardiologist and wore a 24hr monitor. Nothing was wrong. I am already having the palps again this time. ugh!

I have had palpitations since I can remember. I went to see a cardiologist about 12 years ago when it got out of control. It would be so bad that I felt like passing out. They did an ECHO test on me, and I found out that I have an irregular heartbeat, and the shape of my heart actually had something to do with the palpitations... I was told not to drink caffeine or take cold medicines, etc. Anyway... when I got pregnant, I started feeling the palpitations like crazy. I wasn't drinking caffeine, but I felt like I did back when I would drink caffeine before I knew about the heart condition.

I went to the doctor when I was 5.5 weeks and she did an EKG on me. Everything was normal and she said that there is a huge increase in blood now that I'm pregnant. My heart rate was much higher than it normally is, but she said as long as it comes and goes, she's not worried about it. She told me to contact her if it became a regular thing (every day, all day long). I actually haven't felt it since about 6 weeks.

I would check with your doctor just in case. Everyone is different and palpitations are common in pregnancy, but there could be other reasons behind it. GL!

I also had irregular heart rate and was asked to wear a heart monitor but I am convinced it is my thyroid most of the time. Who knows..so may causes for palpitations and chest tightness.
