This baby stuff is a piece of cake...

...or maybe it just seems that way after my long labor and his NICU stay?

Elkanah is so easy to take care of. Sure, he gets fussy sometimes, but he usually just wants to be held, fed, burped or changed. Easy! It takes him a long time to fall asleep to the point where I can put him down, but once he's in his little bed, he's a sound sleeper and I can cook, clean, pop him in the car and go to the store, or whatever.

I've honestly never been around babies or children much, so I was a little nervous that I wouldn't know how to take care of my own baby. I guess that's silly, but I'm relieved that this whole newborn phase is much easier than I expected.

  • Honestly its been the same for us. I keep asking SO whose been through this once before if its because hes still new and will turn on us or if we really did get THIS lucky?? lol He has yet to fuss over nothing, I cant believe it!

  • I feel the same way. DD is so easy going. She hardly fusses over anything. I kept waiting for it to all fall apart because everyone just kept saying she was just still waking up. But she is now awake much more and is really very content to look around and stuff. She is a great eater and sleeper. I know some aren't as lucky with a laid back baby though.

  • Give them a little time to get out of the new newborn phase. And know there is nothing wrong with them when they do wake/become more alert.

  • You girls are LUCKY! My son has colic and if he isn't eating or sleeping he's screaming! DS1 was a much easier baby so I guess I wasn't expecting all this. Enjoy it!

  • When we were in the hospital he had a few meltdowns and all the nurses, and the doctor acted like he was a really irritable baby and I should be concerned about it.Confused Ever since we got home he's been a perfect angel. Well, except when he's overly tired

Elk is very strong, though, and I have a feeling I'm going to have a fast little guy on my hands before I know it. So I'm enjoying this peaceful time while it lasts...

  • DS has been the same. He really only ever cries if he's hungry or gassy. He has several hours a day where he's awake and alert and he's typically content to just sit and look around.

It makes me nervous to have another in case he/she isn't as easy!
