So I am just hoping that some of you with more experience might have some suggestions of things you have done that have helped you to sleep? I have been sleeping terrible for the last week or so and I cannot take it anymore. I am exhausted, I don't have any sick days at work or I would have taken one today just to catch up on sleep. I am so uncomfortable at night, even wiht my body pillow. I was a stomach sleeper so that has been really hard for me. Is there any medication you can take while pregnant that helps? I am open to trying ANYTHIGN at this point.
Re: What are you doing to help sleep?
With my first and now my second pregnancy, sleeping on the couch at an incline has provided me with the best sleep. It's firmer than my bed and I don't try to roll around. When laying flat on my side I find I either wake up rolling over or half of my body falls asleep because I don't move at all. The couch has been way better for me.
Benedryl, Unisom, and Tylenol PM are all safe to take according to my doctor. I totally know what you're talking about being so uncomfortable... my hips have been hurting and when I told my Dr., she said it was perfectly fine to take Tylenol PM to help with the pain and help me fall asleep.
I also got a 4" memory foam topper and it has made a huge difference... I've had to sleep away from home two nights and both were awful because I didn't have that extra padding that helped with the pain!
Good luck! Hope you get some relief!
I take tylenol pm nightly. I knew my dr said it was okay but double checked today to see if taking it every night was okay, she said yes.
The time spent in bed before dozing off was so uncomfortable.
The snoogle helps me soooo much! DH loves it too, lol. I also got a wedge from BRU but it is kinda weird.
I am totally against taking sleep aids due to family members that have gotten hooked. It just makes it worse!
Lurking a little
My OB told me it's safe to take Unisom, It's only a class B med so he said it's safer than any RX sleeping pill. It seems to work for the most part and is pretty cheap.
I do notice on the nights when I think I'm tired enough to sleep without it, I wake up in the middle of the night and cannot for the life of me get back to sleep... But when I do take it I get a good solid 6-8 hours of sleep.
Good Luck! I'm not looking forward to the uncomfortable sleeping in 3rd tri :P
When I have trouble sleeping, I sleep on the reclining part of our couch. I find this helps tremendously with aches and pains. Plus, I don't have to roll over in the middle of the night, which requires a ridiculous amount of effort now. I also find that the slight incline must take some of the pressure off my bladder because I can sleep up to twice as long without getting up to pee!
