Are you a laid back preggo?

Last pregnancy I didnt freak too much but still always had that worry that something could be wrong until my 1st US. This one I feel that exact same way.

Im talking about foods etc.... For my 1st LO OB was pretty laid back as well- no alcohol, no sushi, only 1 starbucks a day max, no meds unless on the "safe" list, and no strenuous exercise unless you were used to it.

I followed the rules and ate pretty much whatever I wanted and didnt freak out too much. We have those very small risks even without being pregnant so my thinking was why would I change it now? Not to sound wreckless or anything because thats not the case.

But I remember reading posts on TB with LO1 and being like "OMG Im not supposed to eat/drink/take xyz why didnt my dr tell me?" Curious if anyone else feels the same.

Re: Are you a laid back preggo?

  • I'm also laid back.  There isn't anything in my non-pregnant lifestyle that requires change just because of a pregnancy.

  • No, because I'm pregnant, not a jar of spaghetti sauce. LOL

I am pretty strict on following the suggested food/drink avoidance list.  I've already been through one m/c.  Why risk going through it again (or causing Little Bit to have a birth defect or something) for some soft unpasteurized cheese or a sandwich with lunch meat?

The one thing I could probably be less strict on is exercise.  I worked out 3-4 days a week before I found out I was pregnant.  But since my spotting started right after I got off the treadmill at a not-very-fast pace last time, I refuse to go to the gym until my doctor clears me for it.  And with all the drama I have had this weekend (lots of spotting, spending all of Saturday in the ER) I'm glad I haven't.

  • I'm pretty laid back by bump standards. My no-no list is: marijuana, alcohol, rare/raw meat, and the typical OTC/perscription drugs that are no-no's (the only one that really affects me is ibuprofen).

I still have caffeine (try and keep it under 200mg a day), eat lunch meat, soft cheeses, etc.

  • Honestly I think that is hard question to answer, all of us have different backgrounds that make us have completely different reactions and perceptions.  Me personally I tend to be a very laid back person, but when it comes to the baby and pregnancy I will be the first one to admit that I am on the high strung side, and my Dr is on the high strung side too, but because of my medical history (2 time cancer survivor & I have lupus & various other issues) I am extremely cautious because I feel like it is such a miracle that I am alive, much less pregnant, that yes I do overanalyze every single thing that I eat or put on my skin etc.

I don't think that one is right or wrong, I just feel that everyone needs to do what makes them feel comfortable and secure, and for right now label checking and double checking on EVERYTHING may take forever, but it does make me feel more peaceful.  That being said I too read posts that make me feel like I am a total slacker, and not checking and researching enough, so I guess maybe I am not as cautious as I thought.

  • I'm pretty laid back. I still have a cup of coffee and eat most of the same foods. I am eating a lot healthier this time because I don't want to gain so much weight.
  • I def consider myself laid back. I take precaution where I feel necessary. But the thing I hate is other people trying to tell me crazy sh*t that they read or heard, and being all "finger pointy, you shouldnt do that" My friends husband last tume got onto me for painting my nails. Something about my cuticles abaorbing something.... Blabla haha. My dh knows I wouldnt do something to harm our childrens and trusts me and lets me have control of my body, that is growing our child.

  • I was laid back the 1st time and I'm still laid back this time around.  I gave up the obvious things, and I thought cutting back on the coffee would be hard.  It wasn't appealing to me so it was easy cutting back from 3 cups a day to 1 cup.

My Dr didn't really give me any rules for eating, I got a binder with a small list of "no-no's".

Thanks so much I appreciate that.  H & H 9 mos to you too!  Maybe I am more laidback than I thought......I eat feta and brie still, not too worried about it though, I figure I will worry about the big things, and not sweat the small things.

  • I consider myself laid-back but cautious.  I loooove sushi and cheese so that's been the hardest for me to give up.  Cheese I eat absurb amounts of so I'm waiting to get Drs opinion on which ones I can eat.  I've been craving a nice Subway sandwich too but since cold cuts are supposed to be a no-no, I have to wait. DH is way more freaked out than I am.  He's getting a little annoying, lol.

  • Very laid back preggo here.  Did the obvious when we found out and quit smoking and drinking and started vitamins.  Other than that, everything is pretty much the same, with the exception of a LOT more naps, which is just fiiiiine by me.

  • Ha!  I am so not laid back.  This is my first pregnancy and I am driving my husband a little bit crazy. :)

Honestly I am, by nature, a worrier and have decided that my MO is "If something were to happen, would I wonder 'what if'?"  So I am eating healthily and working out only moderately.  To be fair, not a far departure from my normal lifestyle (not much alcohol, no caffeine, vegetarian).

I don't think it is wrong for other people to eat/drink/do things I'm not, but I just can't be comfortable with it.

  • I feel like I'm walking a fine line between super-high-strung-hypochondriac-pregnant-woman and totally-fine-yes-i'm-eating-sushi-no-i-don't-care-pregnant-woman. There's a lot of stuff I freak out about, because this is my first pregnancy, so I google the hell out of it and post on here until I read the *right* thing that makes me feel reassured! But for the most part, I tell myself that millions of women get pregnant every day, most problems during pregnancy would be out of my control anyway, and as long as I'm not shooting drugs or bungee jumping, the baby is probably going to be fine :)

  • I'm pretty laid back.  At my first appointment with the nurse, she gave me 2 handouts relating to food and drugs.  One dealt with prescription/OTC drugs that were acceptable during pregnancy.  I was scared only Tylenol would be on the list, but there were a fair amount of things that were acceptable.  The second handout had to do with fish.  It ranked the types of fish by mercury count and listed how many servings per week were acceptable of each type.  Luckily the type of fish DH and I normally eat is low in mercury and we can have it as much as I want.  She also stated that moderate exercise was fine, just watch my heart rate.

Nothing was mentioned about cheese.  I assume this is because most cheese in the US is pasteurized.  Nothing was mentioned about cold cuts, however I do heat up lunch meat if I eat it.  So it appears my OB's office is pretty laid back, and that works well with my personality.

I have my first u/s on Friday, and I plan to ask my doc specifically about things other people have brought up in posts that they are avoiding to get her take on them.

  • I was pretty laid back until I had a scare last week and now I'm paranoid as hel1. However I am still lax to the outside world - I am taking warm (not as warm as I'd like) baths, eating occasional deli meat, having a caffeinated soda each day, etc. I'm just full of inner turmoil now, lol.

  • I'm probably the most laid-back you could meet in my everyday life.  Pregnancy, however, has completely changed that it's driving me crazy.  I'm so ridiculously high-strung and anal about everything I do, eat or drink... it's beyond my control.  Seriously hoping this goes away and I go back to my laissez-faire self after my first u/s on Wed.

  • I am SO laid back. I eat what my body craves.  I don't take vitamins cause my body doesn't need them.  I didn't take them with any of my pregnancies.  I drink coffee, drink Coke, and I take meds if I need to.  The only thing I don't do is drink alcohol, cause it's not worth the risk.

Really no PNVs? I thought all docs advised them.

  • I'm super laid back.  I drank a little bit of wine after 1st tri, had sushi (but I don't like the raw stuff anyway), had coffee/pepsi when I felt like it, had lunch meat without heating it up, etc.

I want to enjoy my pregnancies and not be stressed for no reason!

  • I am NOT laid back at all about my pregnancy, but I am the same way not being pregnant, it's what my personality is. I won't eat lunch meat, raw/rare meat, caffeen is out of the question and medications are not crossing my lips until I speak to my doctor. I know that doesn't work for most women but for me it does.

This is my first pregnany, and it took a lot of hard work to get to the point of even TTC. So for me I want to be sure I am doing everything I can to make this a healthy successful pregnancy.

My sister has 2 children and she was very laid back with both pregnancys, but that is more her personality. I think it just depends on the person and the lifestyle they lived prior to pregnancy. I am incredibly anal about everything, and deep down I wish I could be more laid back, but it's just not who I am.
