We are NOWHERE near ready for another LO, but I always like to think about names. I guess I just want to be sure we get the right name when it's time. So I'm trying to put together some family names in a way that we might like.
DH and I both like the name Marcus. We won't use it as a first name because it was BIL's middle name and he has children of childbearing age who may want to use it as a first name. But we really like the idea of using it as a MN.
So what first name goes with Marcus? Our last name starts with a B and is one syllable. I kind of like David Marcus B... but I don't know if that's "the one" name I like.
Now for a girl... the only family name we're willing to use is Margaret. DH says the only way he could see Margaret working is as a first name. I would end up calling her Maggie all the time, but her legal name would be Margaret in case she wanted to go by it when she got older.
So what MN goes with Margaret? My middle name is May, and I've always wanted to use it for a girl, but I don't know if Margaret (Maggie) May is too sing-songy.
Ideas? Thoughts? What are you thinking about naming your next LO?
Re: just for fun... naming next LO
our top boys name is Jack and that will likely still be on our list if #2 is a boy. Also, Owen and Samuel (Sam).
for girls we'll probably start with the leftovers from this time...Claire, Leah, Mia
LCT - 5.15.14 ~ 9lbs, 22.5 inches
Our names are:
Boy: Tyler Michael (DH's name is Michael but we didn't want to use it this time)
Girl: Tessa Anne
Do you know how long it took us to come with Alexander? Boy names were not easy for us, Alexander was my brother's name so it worked out but if we have another boy we're screwed....I like plenty of names, my husband likes plenty of names....we can't agree on those names.
If LO would have been a girl we were going to name her Mia. Then, we were hanging with our nephew over the weekend who is 5 and he said his girlfriend's name is Rylee and both of us thought that was a cute name for a girl.
We don't plan on on another kid for at least 2 more years but it is fun to think about.
Owen for a boy and Grace for a girl are at the top of my list now, but I'm sure it will change.
Benjamin for a boy, with a middle of Andrew or Ogden (family name). We really like family names.
If DS had been female we would have used Abigail Joy, so we'd probably use that for a girl.
For a boy... we'll argue
But I like... James Michael, (my grandfather was James and Michael is the middle name of choice in my husband's family, his grandfather, father, and my husband all have that middle name.
He likes Sonny James (his grandfather's nickname and he HATES James as a first name....doesn't like the idea of Jimmy)...I am not a fan of Sonny... just too nicknamey for me. He also likes Max (had a dog named this), Rex (I had a great uncle named this, and my grandmother would claim baby was named after him, which he wouldn't be) and Rocky (sounds like a dogs name again)
For a girl we'll discuss the other two names from our list for this time, Madeline Grace, and Lily Marie... I would also like to see Norah Jayne or Norah Ann make the list. --
We agree more on girls names.
My oldest is Margaret/Maggie. After naming her Margaret Jo, I was a little disappointed I didn't choose Mae or Joanna for a middle name. Maggie Mae sounds so natural. Her sitter and gymnastics teacher both call her that without thinking. We often call her Maggie Jo, but we could have still used that nickname if we used the more formal Joanna.
Boy: Luke Christopher
Girl: Catherine Maria
I agree with the PP that boy names for us were HORRIBLE. Neither one of us found anything we could agree on. Riley was the only one DH loved and I didn't find anything for a boy I loved. I'm still not insane with Riley. I think mainly due to I hate that it's used for girls. I think of it as an old fashion boys name (like Avery---which is now my niece's name).
If we have another boy we're screwed. I liked Nathan...but DH refused to call him anything but Nate---and I hate that. Last week I met a boy named Weston...I kinda like that. I love the name Reid. However the company DH works for is that name (spelled differently) and he didn't want to look like a suck up.
Since DH named our first I think I should get much more of a say (if not completely get to name) our second. However, he's already decided that if we have a girl her name will be Ruby (after his grandma).
Riley...Ruby. And our last name is an "R". I'd like 3 kids. I fear that we won't find another "R" name and that would just be odd. And I'm not a huge fan of those families that go with themes for their children like that.
For girls I like (but not attached to any as of yet)...Emma, Savannah, Caroline, Josephine, and Natalie. DH's boss has a new granddaughter named Clara...DH is now in love with that too.
That's a very nice name with a really beautiful girl attached to it
If the next LO is a boy he will be James Robert- the same name we had come up with for a boy this time around.
It took us forever to come up with Eleanor so I have no idea what our girl name will be. I really like Claire and have been trying to wear DH down on it.
Ella born 12/21/11
My top names for another girl would be Harper, Sienna, and Adrienne.
My top names for a boy would be Holden, Rory, or Nolan but I'm not really sold on any of those.
and after 82 days in the NICU, our little girl is home!
Awww!!! Good choice on your part!
When I was in hair school years back I had a cute little old lady client that came to see me every week. Her name was Josephine and I always loved it! Now it's becoming more popular. Secretly I like "Joey" for short. And Josie is really cute too. Do you use and NN's or strickly Josephine?
If we have a boy he will be named Jospeh Steven, nn Joey. Both of ours dads passed away and these were there first names. If another boy comes after then his name will be Logan Michael.
If we have another girl she will either be Margaret May-nn Maggie May, named after my great aunt Margaret and my great grandma May. If a 3rd girl comes she will be Elizabeth Ann.
Can you tell we want multiple kids?
I was in love with the name Levi, but DH won out on naming DS William. So if we have another boy next, I'll probably try and convince DH that we should use Levi- at least as a middle name.
For a girl... gosh, I have no idea.
We would name a boy Ryan Joseph. Hubby's name is Joseph Ryan and I love them both but I wouldn't want a Jr.
Haven't even thought of another girl name. It was hard enough trying to decide on Charlotte.
Fastest year of my life.
Well I'm partial to Margaret seeing as thats what we named DD :-) Her name is Margaret Joanna and we call her Maggie or Maggie Jo.
For our future LO's we are just using the names we havent used yet that we decided upon when I was pg with DS#1.
Boys: Henry Neal for the next boy and then David Aaron for any boys after that.
Girls: Toss up between Natalie Rose or Eleanor Rose (call her Nora).
Boy: Connor anthony...but we like Wesley, too
Girl: probably Audrey, lilianna(lily), or cara
If LO had been a girl, he would have been Juliet Katherine or Juliet Lynn (all family names). That's still at the top of our list, but we'd also consider Leila and Amelia as first names, and Louise as a middle name.
Another boy would be tough. Our runners-up this time were Walker, Holden, and Atticus.
If we have a boy next we will most likely use our boy name from this pregnancy - Edward Fox (and probably call him Fox). Edward is a family name.
For girls our list this time came down to Amelia and Eleanor. Eleanor won out, but I'm not in love with Amelia so we'd probably start from scratch. The only name DH LOVED was Sarah so we used that for her middle name. It will be difficult to decide on another girls name. If it were me alone deciding another girl would probably be Matilda Faye.
BFP #2 - MC Aug 2012 - D&C w/ complications
We were team green this pregnancy and plan on being team green for any other pregnancy as well.
For a boy I thought we would use the name (Lukas William) we were thinking of naming this LO. But shortly after having Ana DH decided if our next one is a boy we will name him Henry William R- which I LOVE! William is DH's fathers name and I would love to use it.
For another little girl I think she will be named Natalya and no idea on a middle name. I really like the slovic first names (DHs family is Polish).
I love my LO, but I'm not even sure I want another baby ( I'm getting mirena on wednesday so I have a few years to think about it). I've always thought about baby names in the abstract though. If this LO had been a girl we would have named her McKenna Susan. I saw the name McKenna in book and fell in love with it. I was surprised DH agreed to it, but then again he was really laid back about the whole names thing. Susan was his mothers name. She passed away from cancer when I was 23 weeks pregnant. It's weird but even if the next one is a girl I feel weird naming that baby the girls name I picked for my first baby even though it turned out to be a boy. If I decide to have another baby and it's a girl my first choice would be Charlotte Ellenor. I would probably end up going with my second choice though Calleigh Rae, because DH has an aunt Charlotte. I think it would go to her head if it seemed like I was naming my LO after her. If it's a boy my first choice would be Hadrian Michael (first name pronouced like Adrian only with a Hay at the begining). My best friends DS2 is named Adrian so I don't know if it would be to close, so my second choice would be Jack Henry.
Most of the names I picked are just because I like them. Except that my grandparents names were Ellenor, and John Henry. My grandpa always went by Jack though and since I'm not a big fan of the name John I picked Jack instead. Sorry this such a long winded explination.
If the next one s a girl, we are screwed. I just have no idea except I want it to include Kathryn. It is my middle name, my mom's middle name, after my great aunt.
I am so hopeful to have a boy because I LOVE our boy name! Jacob Wilder. Jacob because I just love it, and Wilder because I want my boy to be bit wild. Not disobedient, disrespectful off the the wall wild, but all boy. Run and jump and play and be brave and rough and tumble. I want him to be wildly in love with the woman he falls in love with, wildly faithful, and wildly passionate about his beliefs. I don't think I am explaining this well, but I like the name!
DH chose our DS name. Seth Collin. SO I get to pick for our next one.
For a boy I think it will probably be Eli John. (Collin is DH's dad and John is my Dad so we like to use a family name.)
For a girl Probably Vivienne May. (Vivienne was my great grandmother and her middle name was May, and also DH's grandma was Laura May so it would work out perfectly.)
