4 hr road trip with 2 wk old- wish us luck!

SO's job is sending him to a mandatory seminar for 3 days about 4 hours away. Well hes the only one who knows how to change my dressing for my the Csection my doctor so carefully effed up on me, so I guess LO and I are joining him! Fingers crossed for a sleepy car ride. Normally he sleeps through drives and we're heading down late tonight in case we have to make lots of stops for a fussy baby and not be on a time crunch, so hopefully this will get him in the habit of taking his long nap at night, not the middle of the day. (finding bright sides here..)

  • I'm sure he'll sleep the whole time! Maybe you'll even make it the whole way without having to stop to feed him! Good luck!

ETA: How are you feeling? Are you healing nicely now that the doctor's screw up has been addressed?

  • Good luck! We did a little trip to see J's grandma this weekend (1.5 hours each way) and it went better than expected. I hope it goes well!

  • We looked into a lawsuit but its going to be more time and $ than its worth, so I may as well update:

Not really lol we're still having to pack and rip my dressings twice a day, which has become something we both completely dread, and count down to. But it is slowly but surely getting better so... thats good I guess. Also, we found a pedi surgeon whose willing to do Lo's circ, since no OB wanted to touch "another doctors baby." And then about 3 days after we had my giant hole cut open on the left side, we found a hard lump above the incision on the right. the first night I couldnt even stand from the pain, and had to be CARRIED to bed. We had SO's daughter though and decided to ice it until the morning and go from there. Well after icing it all night, it was a lot better in the morning. I kept up with that for a few days and now it doesnt hurt at all but theres still a definite log shaped lump. My OB whose following up with the infected part is thinking either the beginnings of a hernia from a poorly stitched incision, or hopefully just a collection of either blood or fluid, which would go away on its own with time. We're keeping an eye on it.

SO and I couldnt be more furious at my OB and at the legal system that suing him would cost more than we would get in return, but Ive been on the phone with manyyyyyy hospital administrators the past week or so making sure something IS done to prevent this from happening again. And I'm trying really hard (not always sucessfully) to focus on the bright side that LO is just fine and Id rather it be me if I had to choose..

  • G'luck. I think the fact that he's still so small is going to be in your favour. It might mean sitting int he back seat with him so you can reach him more easily, but I dont think it's going to be an issue :)

    Enjoy!

That's such a shame that taking legal action isn't an option because it sounds like it'd be completely warranted in this situation. Hopefully the hospital will be able to do something to make up for his screw up... at the very least severely discipline him!
