How many exams are you getting at this point to check for dialation. I had one at 36 wks (last wk)...wondering if it will be an every other wk thing or what
I get them all the freaking time. They don't bother me at all so I really don't care either way, BUT you could just tell them you only want them ever other week. It is your decision in the end.
Pretty sure its pretty much a weekly thing starting at 36 wks. At least, that was standard procedure when I had DD 8 years ago. I don't hit 36 until next week so?
My OB said it's up to me. I had one done at my 37 week appointment (he was on vacation for my 36 week appt) and I've been going back and forth on whether I'll get another at my 38 week appt. Last time I was 0 cm dilated and 50% effaced, but I've been experiencing nightly menstrual-like cramping and contractions since then, so I might have him check again just to see if I've made any progress.

Depends completely on your doc. Some seem to start at like 34 weeks and do them every time. Some start at 38 weeks. Some do one at 38 and then not again. Some start later than that. I don't know what my MW does- very curious to find out at my 36 week appt tomorrow!
Most will do them if you request it, and most will not do it if you don't want it done.
I had one way back early on and now every week starting at 36 weeks for me .. I could say no if I wanted to, but I trust my Oby not to try and speed things along. It doesnt hurt and I am not the easily embarassed type... last week he said my cervix was 80 % thinned..so I guess we'll find out today if It's actually changed much since then.
The way LOL has been since the last appt I am surprised my guts haven't dropped out along with LO... he sure feels like he was in there with a pick axe digging an escape tunnel I am still surprised I didnt hear Hi Ho Hi Ho from down there followed my 7 dwarfs and snow white emerging ....

I was the same way. At 35 weeks I was 75% effaced, not dilated.
Her head is so low and pushing down so hard, I am afraid she is just going to fall out. I wish I could grab her feet and pull her up a little - too bad they are buried somewhere in my rib cage.
We (my doctor and I) decided it would be good to start doing them at 35 weeks since I gave birth at 37 weeks with my son. Normally my OB goes by a case by case basis. It's been said like ten times on the thread alone... but every practice is different. Talk with your doctor about it.
