What is the biggest difference between these two convertables?
I have an infant seat for my car, but we are thinking of going straight to a convertable in DH's car. It's a 2-door and an infant seat will be a pain to take in and out. Plus, I will do daycare drop-off and pick-up so DH won't need to drive the baby much in his car.
Is the biggest difference the headwings or are there other features to consider? How much safer do the headwings make the seat? I'm also wondering if the headwings will make it that much harder to get the baby in/out of a 2-door car.
Thanks!
Re: Britax Marathon vs. Boulevard
I think both seats are huge, will they even fit in a 2 door car? I would think it would be hard to put a small baby into a convertible in a 2dr. I drive a mini cooper (2 doors and a tiny back seat) and my DD is 5 months, we use the infant seat and just have to heft it into the back seat. Its not too fun but is a lot easier than trying to hold her, climb into the backseat, then put her into a seat and buckle the straps. We we use hubby's car, we just use the infant seat without the base.
If the two door car is small, you might have trouble finding a convertible that will fit and not take up half the car. In general, the higher weight limit seats are pretty large and take up a lot of room rear facing.
We just bought an Evenflo tribute to use in my husbands car and for flying. It only has a weight limit of 40lbs, but is about the same size as an infant seat in the rear facing mode.
You should also test out the fit of any car seat in the car to make sure you can get a good fit. A seat could be awesome and have the highest ratings, but if it can't install properly, it won't be safe.
Hope this helps
Thanks. DH drives a Hyundai Accent 2-door which is small, but not too small. We have tried the convertables and they both fit. I have looked at the Evenflo carseats and am considering those but am just trying to figure out the main difference between the two Britax's.
Since we're going to have to go to a convertable at some point anyways I'm trying to figure out which one is best and if it's easier to use it from the start with DH's car since he won't have to drive LO that often in his vehicle. I guess we could always move the Britax to my car when the time comes and get something else for DH if the Britax doesn't work out.
Curiosity got to me...
Looks like the boulevard has true side impact protection while the marathon has a basic level of side impact protection. Otherwise they seem basically identical. https://www.britaxusa.com/learning-center/360-degree-protection/true-side-impact-protection (can't make a link from my phone).
The Marathon should fit, both it and the Radian fit in the Mini Cooper. The Accent has more room in the back than the Mini. The headwings may not be a problem, if you really like the seat. The Advocate may be too huge.
Also look at the True Fit and Complete Air.
I slip dd through the back hatch (very easy in a Mini), but the Accent is larger, so it may not be a problem to just flip the seat forward and hop back and put lo in. We've had a few 2 doors in our time, it's workable.
Exactly this. This is the true difference. DH has a 2 door Honda Civic and the seat fits just fine. Also just go to a high end baby store they are happy to take the display out to your car and try it out for you.
