I went to MFM today for an u/s to see if I qualify for a version to get this breech baby flipped. Most importantly, lil Dewey looks great! He's measuring 6 lbs 10 oz and is in the 57th percentile. His heart look fabulous and my placenta and fluid looks perfect. However, despite all of this greatness, the doctors have decided that they will not do the version because of my Von Willebrand Disease (it's a bleeding disorder that I have). Although my Factor VIII blood clotting levels are the highest they have ever been, I have still given the baby a 50% chance of carrying the gene. I was told that the manipulating of the baby and uterus during a version can cause severe bruising to the baby, especially if he has VW, too. Soooo... it looks like we're Team C Section.
Cons: I feel like I've somehow been cheated. It's like I've been running a marathon for 20 miles and won't be able to finish now that I'm so close to the end. Silly? Maybe. Nonetheless, it's how I feel.
Pros: I get Dewey a week early (in only 18 days or so)! Also, I feel much more mentally prepared for a c section now that a lot of you have shared your stories with me. So thank you so much for that.
Lastly, I still have a few weeks for the baby to turn on his own. Maybe he'll surprise me! I sort of doubt it though. Right now, he's hanging out with his head up in my right ribs, with his back pressed to the right side of my belly, and his butt on my uterus. He has his legs kicked out in front of him, down by the left side of my stomach. He looks like a giant C. :-/
Re: No version for us. :(
sorry Dewey!! Definitely still time for baby to flip and if he doesn't, at least you're mentally preparing!
and in my opinion, you ARE still finishing the marathon (with a faster time, since you're meeting him early
).
Don't let anyone tell you that a c/s is not "birth", that's total bs and not a walk in the park. and you sound like you have a positive attitude which means you'll be back on your feet in no time!!
I don't read all the posts so if you've tried this already and I missed it I apologize! But a girl in my prenatal yoga class just had the good luck of flipping her twins by going to a acupuncturists. I don't know anything about it though so you may be to far along to get that kind of benefit from it.
And you still are finishing the marathon so don't feel cheated! Even those of us with babies in position may end up needing c-sections. Few people end up with their dream birth plan.
I'm sorry, Dewey.
I would be upset too.
I don't know if it helps, but I liked the way my birth class educator talked about c-sections:
First, she doesn't call them c-sections, or cesarean sections, only cesarean births and she said that it is vital to remember that it IS still giving birth and though it's not your intended plan, the result is the still the same: A baby that loves you.
I thought it was a nice way of thinking about and if I do end up having a cesarean birth, I think it will make me a little more okay with it.
AND in the mean time, I hope Dewey flips! Think lots of summer olympics gymnastics thoughts at him.
I used to be "Chasingthedog" but it would never let me update my profile.

I'm sorry...I'm in the same boat as well if that helps at all! Newbie is sitting with his head grinding in my ribs (I swear he's going to have a dented head) and I have my appt with my Dr tomorrow to discuss scheduling the version. I don't think I have any contraindications, however I am prepared that they are not the most successful of procedures. My coworker (three of us are randomly breech, I will be the last to deliver) tried the version and her baby would not flip.
Not only am I bummed about the c-section idea, but I'm also worried about hip dysplasia. This is much more common in breech babies. Of the three of us breech ladies at work, one baby has some slight dysplasia that they are monitoring and the other's baby was put in the harness as a newborn.
I've tried pretty much everything to convince Newbie to flip--acupuncture, all the weird (and uncomfortable!) positions on spinningbabies.com, handstands in the pool etc. I guess Newbie is just comfy where he is!
C'mon babies, FLIP!!

Hi,
I am in the same boat. I did not want the version as I have heard that it can be painful. I was also surprised to hear that my baby is breech. Hopefully she will decide to turn. I have less than two weeks to make it happen. Good luck with your little one too!
Thanks everyone! I'm feeling better about it now. One of the nurses called from my OB to check up on me yesterday. That was great! She also said that one of the scheduling nurses will call me today to schedule my C. OMG!!!! I can pick any day after the 8th. I'm thinking I like 3-9-12.
I *really* love Pinterest!
