Days/Nights mixed up

How do you tell if your newborn truly has their days and nights mixed up?  The last 2 nights my daughter has spent the night eating every 1.5-2 hours and sleeping relatively lightly and during the day she sleeps more soundly.  Does she have her days/nights mixed up?  We keep the blinds open during the day and go on with life like normal.  If she does have them confused is there anything else we can do to help her switch them around? TIA

  • Newborns do not know the difference between night and day and mostly will not until 2 months or more. Each baby is different but do not expect them to understand might and day right now. Your baby is exhibiting normal newborn behavior.

  • my son did this, but not until he was older, like 8 weeks. In that even we just tried to play with him more during the day (before and after feedings). It took a couple of nights, but eventually he flipped. GL

  • I think your LO is still too young to worry about correcting her days and nights. As long as she's sleeping between feedings at night I don't know what you could do correct it anyway.

  • My pedi said to do exactly what you are doing (my LO is having the exact same problem).  He said it may take a week or two for them to "flip".  I think we're doing the right thing, just have to take it one day at a time.
