Saturday, E started having diarrhea. Happened a couple of times from 2-7pm and then she went to bed, slept fine. Sunday, all hell broke loose. She blewout no less than 10 diapers and had another 3 or 4 that didn't blow out but were still AWFUL. Last night, she went to sleep around 7, I checked her at 11 and no poop yet, but by 12:30, she was crying and had diarrhea all over herself. We changed the sheet-saver, pjs, put her in the tub for a bath (that's how disgusting it was), got her dressed again and back to bed. 5:30am - same thing. another bath, more sheets, etc. 7am, she woke up (no poop), drank her bottle, and by 7:45, she had blown out another diaper. she's drinking her bottles just fine and acting normal.
DH just took her into the pedi and they said double ear infection and possible giardia (he has to collect a sample and bring it back to them). I just looked it up and freaked my freak, but it doesn't really sound like her (it says no mucus and she definitely has mucus in the stool).
So - anyone else dealing with this right now? Is there a stomach bug going around? Anyone dealt with giardia? It says it could last 2-4 weeks, in which case I will die if it's like this (not to mention we're supposed to go to the beach this weekend and to arizona for a week starting march 3).
lastly - any mommy tips to control the blowouts? We bought a size up to try and help yesterday, but it didn't help. She never has blowouts with 'regular' poop, just this diarrhea. Especially night time help - she's a tummy sleeper and it's leaking out the top, onto her shirt.
I don't think I'll ever get this smell out of my nostrils. y'all, it's SO bad!
Re: OMG... the poop! (TMI)
That sounds disgust. Pleh.
I'm just tossing this out there, but is the pedi checking the stool sample for C. diff as well? Chances are super slim, but frequent bouts of (very, VERY) smelly poo could be a C. diff infection and, if it is, you want to get it knocked out asap.
K - I called the pedi and asked them to test for c.diff if it wasn't already going to be included as part of the stool sample test.
thanks, ladies! they said we wouldn't hear back until tomorrow afternoon at the earliest.
