In looking around my house, it seems like my LO has a lot of toys--but she really doesn't. We went out and bought new toys yesterday--and my husband made a comment that she got plenty of things for Christmas/Hanukkah. However, once we started remembering what she got---it didn't amount to much to keep her attention. We only bought her one thing (the laugh and learn house); grandparents contributed to her college fund and bought her tons of books and clothes. She got a lot of stuffed animals from cousins, aunts and uncles. In terms of actual "toys"--she probably ended up with 6-8 different items (some of the were duplicates or small items--like rattles, etc) It was also 2 months ago that she got her new toys-and needed some new ideas/things to keep her entertained.
How often does your LO get new toys?
Re: How often does your LO get new toys?
Our family buys her clothes--not so much toys And when they do buy her toys--they stay at there house (since she goes between grandparents houses during the week while we are at work.)
I think I want to get on a Christmas/Hanukkah and Birthday routine--but we definitely needed some more toys now--since her birthday is in May. I think next year we will definitely buy her more than one thing for the holidays. LOL.
Not too often. We try to rotate things in and out and use things around the house as well. We try to strike a balance between keeping him stimulated and not over-consuming and spending a bunch of money and cluttering up the house.
eta: However, when it does seem like he needs new toys, we get him new toys. We usually do a combo of new things from Amazon (especially anything plush, etc.) and used things in good shape from the consignment store (anything that doesn't wear easily and can easily be cleaned, like plastic toys).
I was eyeing that because she does love her shapes--however she already has two different shape sorters. (Plus the one on the laugh and learn house.)
It just seems like all her toys are variations of another--but we had no receipts to return them. She has Scout and Violet. Two different stackers (one that plays music, one that doesn't), two shape sorters (the elephant one and the peek-a-block one) plus the one in the house. And the toys she got for the holidays--she has to grow into. She got a radio flyer 3-1 tricycle--which isn't a "real" toy, a Cabbage Patch Kid, whose has her name on the birth certificate. (so I don't want her to play with her yet). Three O-balls, two different mirror rattles. And about 20 different books. We are just in a toy rut
We do split her toys upstairs and downstairs though. I definitely have to hide them and rotate them out.
