Boston Babies

Dressing your LO for winter

Hi Ladies,

I will be moving to Boston from California next week.  I have a 8 week old baby and I'm not sure how to dress him for the winter.  I know that I am suppose to dress him one more layer than what I'm wearing but I'm cold all the time.  Do you dress him differently if you are just taking him in and out of the car than taking a stroll around the block?  Do I get him a snow suit or a thick jacket?  I am so confused.

Re: Dressing your LO for winter

  • When DS was an infant, I usually dressed him the same as I dressed myself. If we went for a walk or would be outside for more than a few moments, I would just tuck a blanket over him.

I would not get a snow suit for a baby as young as your LO. But we did have a few of those fuzzy body suits- they looked like footie pjs but were for having LO outside.

  • I would just get one of those buddleme things for the car seat and throw a hat on his head. It is more comfortable for the baby and so much easier on you to get him in. The good thing is its not that cold here this winter :) Welcome to Boston!!

  • Thank you for all your suggestions.  If I dress him in a long sleeve onesie, a microfleece pajama and a fussy body suit, would that be warm enough to stroll around the neighborhood?

This is what I use. I put a hat on LO and thats it. I feel like if I add a jacket too it would be too hot. It's been super convenient. I did just buy a snowsuit on sale for $15 incase we do get snow I thought it would be fun for LO if we put him in his sled.

Throw a blanket over him and you should be goo. Though with the weather we've been having lately, it may actually be overkill ;) Your pedi may give you recs as well. When DD was that age I lived in PA and asked my dr. He was OK with her wearing what I did. Don't forget a hat!

ETA: Where in CA are you coming from? I grew up there.

  • Thanks everyone!  I just got my son one of the stroller cover thing and he seems to like it.  We are moving from the Bay Area.  I have to admit, I miss the weather.
