Hello everyone! Here's what's been going on with Adalyn for the last couple of days.
Breathing
Adalyn
is tolerating her antibiotics well, and she hasn't shown any other sign
of infection. However, the last couple of days she has needed some
more support from the vent. Now, the settings are still considered low,
but they're higher than they've been. Her blood gasses haven't been
horrible, but they haven't been all that
great either. Her chest x-ray did come back better, showing that part
of her lung that was looking closed as being open and normal again. As
she gets older and grows more lung tissue, her ability to breathe on
her own will be more likely. We're just going to have to take it one
day at a time, since we are all on her schedule.
Feeding and Weight
She
went down in weight yesterday to 840g, but tonight she weighed 880g! She is up to 1 pound 15 ounces! She is still tolerating her feedings very well, and hasn't
had any residuals. They lowered the rate at which they give her the
breastmilk, and this has helped with her not having any residuals. Her
MD said that he would increase her feeding volume once she gains weight,
but I forgot to ask how much she would have to gain before he increased
the volume again. I'll be sure to ask him that tomorrow.
Miscellaneous
Overall,
she has
been pretty stable. I'm disappointed that there wasn't an improvement,
but at least she didn't really get worse. She is borderline anemic, so
hopefully she'll be able to rebound off of that. If not, she might
need another blood transfusion in the next couple of days. I'm pretty
sure that they will still be able to use DHs blood if she does, but
I'm not sure if his blood has "expired".
I'm
still pumping like crazy, and yesterday was my absolute best at 37
ounces!!! Today, I may even surpass that, or at least get very close. I
can't believe how much milk I'm producing! I know that I'm fortunate
because some people have a really hard time, but I owe it mostly to the
hospital grade pump that I'm renting. At this rate, I'll run out of
room in both of our freezers and have already enlisted the help of my
parents and siblings for space in
their freezer!

I hope that tomorrow Adalyn will have an
improvement, but as long as she stays stable I will be happy. I know
that we are all on her schedule, and hopefully she will want to please
her impatient mom and get off the vent as quickly as possible.

Adalyn decided to sprawl out today! So, the nurse got the measuring
tape and she is 13 and 3/4 inches long, which is an increase from her
birth length of 12 inches!

Stable is good! My DH's cousins daughter (also born at 26 weeks) had so many struggles and was unstable for a long time (brain bleeds or fluid, feeding issues, infection). She pulled through with flying colors and is a wonderfully happy, healthy, developmentally on target almost 3 year old!
GO ADALYN! She sounds like she is doing so well. Cheering her on....!!!!
