I read Lucie's List's section about this, but I'm still not sure if I have everything we'll need. So far we have diapers, wipes, diaper cream, and lotion. Do we really need anything else (powder, etc.)? TIA!

Re: Changing station essentials?
Powder is no longer recommended for babies because it's an inhalation hazard. Talc in baby's lungs = not good.
This is what I keep on my changing station: diapers, wipes, extra diapers/wipes boxes, burp cloths (in case of big spit-ups), a few toys within reach (for distraction purposes) and hand sanitizer.
Although, if you're working off a dresser top you may not have space for all of that; my changing station has two shelves uder the changing pad, so I have room for all of that, plus a diaper caddy at the foot of the pad.

I read somewhere that at about 3 months to start giving them a flashlight to play with only during changes. Something to use as a special toy to intrigue them.
A flashlight? That's an interesting idea
I'll definitely be adding sanitizer to the essestials (diapers, wipes, cream, washcloths/burp cloths for any sprays) even though I loath sanitizer. One of my BFFs is a pediatrician and she highly recommended having sanitizer all over the place. And on the spraying note...one of my girl cousins (who's like 14 now) peed on me when she was a newborn...so, it can happen with girls too
Ahh, no wonder why I haven't heard of anyone keeping it around.
Great info ladies, thanks! We have our changing table ontop of a dresser, and a large sectioned caddy next to it, so there's definitely room for all that stuff.
