9wks and zero weight gain?

Anyone else at about 9 weeks with no weight gain?  The only symptoms i've had are feeling super tired, sore boobies, and feeling a little bloated.  My next appt isn't until 12 weeks and i'm feeling nervous something is wrong.

Re: 9wks and zero weight gain?

  • No need to worry. Plenty of people actually lose weight in the first tri.

I know it's rough waiting for appointments... hang in there!

  • This is not uncommon remember the first tri is 13 weeks so you have time.  The average is 3-5 lbs first tri.

  • I haven't gained yet, even though my tummy looks like it has! I really wouldn't let that worry you!

This is true -- maybe instead of my healthy snacks i'll start ordering some pizza! haha! :)  jk

  • With my first pregnancy I didn't gain a single pound until 14-15 weeks.  Though, I made up for it plenty in second and third tri Embarrassed

It's not uncommon to not gain weight in first tri, like pp said, a lot of people actually lose weight.  I know it's hard not to worry between appointments, but try not to overanalyze.

  • Don't worry!  Ideally your doctor wants you to only gain about 5-10 lbs by the time you reach 20 weeks because after that, the weight starts piling on.  So you're in a good spot!

  • I'm actually down 3 pounds.  It's completely normal not to gain weight until 2nd tri.

  • It's not abnormal to not gain much weight, if any, in the 1st trimester if you're eating properly and maintaining regular exercise (if you're not on pelvic rest, of course).  I've read that by end of 20 weeks you should have gained about 8 lbs or so...my OB gave me a range of 8 to 10 lbs... mind you that is certainly different for every person and depends on many factors.

I'm 11 weeks today and I've gained 2 lbs, half of which I'm sure is water weight because I eat a lot of salty foods and am really bad at balancing it out with potassium-rich foods.

  • no noticeable weight gain here either.  the scale has fluctuated a bit here and there but I'm guessing that's due to bloat.  my m/s also disappeared a couple of weeks ago (9w2d today) and my gas/bloating/constipation have been under a control for a while now as well.  the tired factor is there, but i'm a public school teacher with a second job so tired is a permanent state of being for me *laugh*

the way i figure it is this...our first u/s showed a baby with a strong heartbeat and both the u/s tech & OB were very pleased with what they saw.  i haven't had any cramping or bleeding so i am just assuming everything is going along fine.  my next appt is on the 15th of march and i am impatient for it to get here as well to see our little bean, how big it's become, and hear the heartbeat!

  • Thanks for the responses! In my head i know it's "normal" not to have gained yet.  I talked to my mom and she is super tall and skinny (i'm more short and skinny..lol) and she said she wore her regular clothes with my brother and myself all the way to 20 weeks --- so i know i'm just being crazy.

yet i feel like i eat all day everyday --- but i am still working out 4 days a week so i guess that balances out...lol

  • I'm down 3-4 pounds. I wouldnt worry about it.

  • As much as I have consumed since BFP, you would think I had gained 30 lbs.  Not to mention the fact that I rarely exercise anymore.  Fortunately, I've only gained 2 lbs.  I've read that you are not supposed to gain but between 3-4 lbs. in your first trimester, with the bulk of your weight gain in the 2nd trimester.  Don't beat yourself up! It will happen for you!

  • I'm 10 weeks and down 5 pounds. With my first pregnancy, I didn't get above my prepregnancy weight until 28 weeks. I wouldn't worry.

  • I'm 9 weeks as well, and I'm actually down a couple lbs. It's not abnormal to not have weight gain at this point...think about how tiny that baby is right now! And we'll definitely make up for it later once the baby gets bigger. (For me, the morning sickness is what has made me not want to eat a whole lot, so once that goes away, I expect to start eating a lot more regularly.)

  • I have actually gained about 6 lbs...which kind of stresses me out.  But before pregnancy DH and I didn't really eat carbs unless they were in our fruit, and now that's all that sounds good to me ever.  Also, I have thrown up a grand total of 3 times, and one of those times it was before I had eaten anything, so all the extra carbs and calories I am consuming are just soaking in.

  • I'm actually DOWN 14 lbs. I'm "fluffier" (as someone stated before and it stuck LOL) but I was concerned about that and my Dr. didn't seem to be so I'm just going with it!
