Shoppers:dress help needed!

I need help finding a dress for DH's Christmas party. 

 I rarely buy new clothes and am especially intimidated when it comes to dressing up.  In years past the party was just held at one of the Dr.'s houses, so the dress wasn't very formal-I just wore black dress pants and a sweater.   But this year it's being held at a really nice hotel and the dress attire is "semi-formal."  I've looked a little online, but haven't found anything that stands out to me. 

I've thought about making a trip to Nordstrom's this weekend to look, but I'm not sure if everything there will be out of my budget.  Thanks for any help!

    LOve Nords, and I have MUCH better luck shopping online, then going to the store.  It's a little less overwhelming for me.  THere was a BM dress posted earlier that was super cute and I think on sale at either Ann Taylor or Loft.

    What is the max you are willing to spend?  I always find things at Banana Republic that I love for things like holiday parties.

     

    And this year, I have ZERO holiday party needs.   SO SO SO sad.

    my tried-and-true shop for occasions like these is white house|black market. ?i ALWAYS find something fabulous there, and their prices are really reasonable (<$150 in most cases).

    I would like to spend under $100, maybe $150 if it was something I'd get a lot of wear from.

    And Co18, I'd let you go in my place.  It's starting to stress me out and I'm considering telling DH we should skip it.  I'm such a fuddy duddy homebody.
