If you have a toddler...

,,,how are you dealing with the physical demands of chasing after them and being pregnant at the same time?

DS is about as active as can be, and after a full day of wrangling him, my body really feels it!  I'm not talking about just being tired...at times I almost feel tension in my bump (if that makes sense, lol) and extra crampy.  It's scary, and my body is telling me I'm overdoing it, but sometimes I don't have a choice (especially days like today when DH is out of town all day)!

  • I have the same feelings.  It is so exhausting and I am always afraid of over-doing it.  Luckily, DD is starting to color and play with blocks, so I try and break up the running around as much as I can.

  • I'm exhausted - perpetually. I am usually desperate for her bedtime simply because it means that I can go to bed too! I've noticed that when I get her out in the morning and again after her nap that the day goes so much more smoothly and she sleeps better. I take the opportunity whenever she is sleeping to rest myself. It's tough though, no doubt.

  • I spoke to my midwife about the tension of the bump and she suggested taking in more water. It sounds odd but I found it worked for me. I'm chasing a DD (2.5) and a friends son (16m) and at the end of the day I want to collapse, after a soak in the tub and a increasing my daily water intake I have found I don't feel as bad. Hope this helps. Take it easy when you can.

  • I have been wondering this as well. I am a FTM and I told DH the other day... "I don't know how women do this while having a toddler to take care of at the same time! I'm exhausted and I don't have a child outside the womb yet!"

  • Yeah when DS fights me to get in the grocery cart, get in the tub, put on a diaper like a cheetah. I feel it. Just today at the grocery store he was kicking and being crazy and I had to get him into the carseat and I lifted him up and owwie my bump hurt. But, I really didn't have much of a choice. I just try to take it easy when I get home. I told DH when I got home that he needs to come to the grocery store with us or stay home with DS from now on because fighting with a 30lb 2 year old just isn't working for me.

  • its not easy but I try and rest when she naps and then go to bed early which is hard when DH is out of town. He is out of town for 2 weeks and I am going crazy.

  • I wish my kid was the problem. My new job is kicking my ass physically. My son does still want to be picked up, or I get frequent toddler head-butts into the belly and pelvis when he runs at me from across the room. I get strong braxton hicks if I carry him around too much, so I've been trying to make him walk more.

  • I have 2 toddlers, just rest when they rest and stay hydrated. It also doesn't hurt to babygate them in the room with you and turn on the tv for a few minutes of down time.

  • My baby is 15 months old, and I try to nap on the weekends when he naps. My husband is also really helpful. My dad watches my baby while I am working, so when I pick him up, I eat dinner at my parents and bring a plate home for my husband so dinner is usually always taken care of that way. And, I'm usually a couch potato by 8:30 after the baby goes to bed.
  • I don't have a kid yet out of womb but I know how you feel! I am an ICU nurse and starting last week at work I have been feeling a tension (thank you for that description it is really fits how it feels) across my belly! I know I need to quit pulling and tugging on my pts but it is hard to when we dont' have much help!

  • Like PPs, I have found on the days that I drink more water, I do feel better.  But...sometimes I have a hard time remembering to take care of me during the day! ;)  I'm getting a lot of Braxton-Hicks now, too, when I'm on my feet too much or carrying DS a lot (tough not to since he's been sick literally every other week for over a month.  sigh...).  I just try to rest when I can and remember to drink more.  Sure is tiring.

Not that I'm happy to see other tired mamas out there, but it does make me feel like less of a weanie to see that I'm not alone.  Thanks, ladies! :)
