Thawed homemade baby food becomes separated & lumpy! Can ANYONE help me?!

I have been making my 6 month old's baby food for about 2 months now and I just recently have been having a problem. I have the Baby Bullet and store food in the provided containers to freeze and refrigerate, as well as my own Rubbermaid containers. I always puree her food to a nice smooth consistency but lately, with sweet potatoes & squash, when I thaw it out from the freezer, it is lumpy and grainy. I've tasted it and the little bits feel like gelatin. Does ANYONE know why this would be happening??? I assume it has something to do with temperatures when I prepare the food, but I've googled so many different phrases and can't find any answers!

  • I think it is due to the starchy nature of those vegetables (regular potatoes don't freeze well either). You could try heating it and adding some milk/rice cereal to regain a smooth texture.
  • Loading the player...
  • Mine doesn't end up runny, it ends up thicker and sort of grainy, with little chunks of gelatin. I never thought of the starch, it must have something to do with that. I don't know how to prevent it from happening, but I guess I could just pur?e it again.
