Another BLW ?

Hello Ladies! I lurk here often and have loved all the tips I have picked up on BW. I am starting to think BLW may be the best option for my DD once she is 6 months. I am starting to research it early (she is only 10 weeks) since this will be a very novel concept to most of our family. I LOVE the idea that she will be in charge of what and how much she eats as my family has a history of food issues including showing love through food. I didn't even know BLW existed with my son and I really like what I have read so far. My question is about DC. How did eating at DC work for those of you that have done /are doing BLW? Were they supportive? What do you pack? This is really the only part I am worried about. TIA for any helpful tips and information!

  • There's a pamphlet you can print for daycare: https://baby-led.rhgdsrv.co.uk/pdf/blwleaflet.pdf

We're not using daycare yet, but lots of people have just talked to their providers. Sending food would be easy - steamed veggies, fruit cut into stick shapes, plain pasta, strips of meat, whatever.

  • I posted on here recently asking for advice b/c I was sure my DC wouldn't do BLWing.  Turns out, they've read the book and were VERY supportive.  Our DC provides food even, so they told me the other day that once my LO is 6 months I can either bring his food the way I want him to eat it, OR I can circle things from the menu and he will eat what they cook.  All of the children in his class feed themselves (unless parents prefer the child be fed purees).  So I guess I would just say that it's something you can ask them and you might be surprised.  And, if you interview a place early enough and they're receptive, you could maybe get them a copy of the book to read?  GL!

  • I SAH, but CarlaandJames, who posts on June 2011, has had a lot of success w/BLW and her daycare.  I'm sure you could page her over there and she could tell you about her experience.  I know she brought them the pamphlet that Tokenhoser linked and she's had other parents interested in it too!

  • Thanks Ladies! Since DS is didn't go to DC until he was 18mos and for convenience DD is in same DC, I didn't research the DC from an infant perspective. I will page CarlaandJames!

  • We just didn't do meals at daycare until she was eating solids well enough for it not to be an issue. I think DD2 was about 10 months when I started sending lunch. Before that we just did breakfast and dinner at home during the week.
