How did you choose your formula?

So we can start supplementing that one bottle a day I am researching. We have cans of sample formula from enfamil and simulac. Do I just try both and see which DS like/tolerates the best? Is it just trial and error?

Re: How did you choose your formula?

  • You shouldn't switch once you've started one unless he really isn't tolerating one like having a lactose problem. It's not good for their bellies to switch like that. That being said we had a bunch of samples too and we just picked enfamil newborn because we had more coupons for that than any other. Good thing is we get the best coupons from enfamil! It's basically just a personal choice when it comes down to it. GL

  • We stashed a bunch of the enfamil 2 oz nursettes from the hospital, 10 boxes of 6 in each to be exact.  We supplement baby with about one or two of the nursettes daily.  Once we run out of those, I'll probably buy similac.  I have a bunch of coupons for those to supplement bm with.

  • I don't personally agree with the poster about changing formulas.  With my daughter we started with one sample we had, was Enfamil.  Once we knew that worked we tried similac, that was fine so we mixed them.  This way we could use both brands coupons and sales.  This helped us save alot of money and worked out well when there was a recall and we suddenly couldn't get the one formula.  When she got a bit older and the coupons/rebate checks started coming less we switched to target brand.
