Movement late in the game? - updated

I did end up calling the hospital and asking the nurse who said she'd like me to come in for an NST. I tried every trick at home to get baby to kick/roll/move and got maybe 1 roll in 2.5 hours so I didn't feel silly really going in since I knew I tired my best to get results at home. I got hooked up and HB looked good but still no movement. The nurse left and came back and the baby had gone to sleep! So I had to stay another 20mins and she asked me to roll on my side and drink some apple juice. (both of which I did at home). In the end all is fine and she said that baby was quite low and sometimes when they're engaged they move a lot less. Thanks for the reassurance that I wasn't over-reacting ladies.

  • My midwife told me drink some cold juice and lay down on your left side and you should feel 10 movements in an hour...not all day. If you don't feel it, try again later in the day and if still no movement you need to call.  I find that when I'm busy I don't feel a ton of movement so maybe all your activity is disguising the movement or rocking her to sleep?

  • Had some chocolate about 30 mins ago and still nothing. Going to try some cold juice and go back and lay down.Just wish I could get those 10movements like every other day...Thx
  •    My OB tells me to monitor 5 movements in an hour. If I'm not feeling movements, lay on my left side and relax. Also, as pp stated, drink some cold juice. I, too, have noticed that when I'm busy, I don't feel quite as much movement. It's when I actually settle down and relax when I feel the (crazy) movements! :)

I'm sure it's just because you've been so busy. If you're worried, try monitoring yourself and if you're still uncomfortable, call your OB. There's no harm in having your nerves calmed. Best of luck to you!

  • I would feel her move alot when I would sit in a warm bath. Just a suggestion...but maybe it would relax you enough to feel her move!!

  • I find when I'm busy or around a lot of people, baby is quite quiet, and can be for awhile. I understand that feeling though - c'mon baby, give me a kick. I would do as others suggested, go lie down somewhere quiet and try to relax. Poke or jiggle your belly if you want, but just be calm. Baby's movements do slow down as they run out of room, but you should still be able to count 10 in an hour (and, as others have said, you might have to try a second time).

By going to the hospital you are NOT overreacting. If you think you should go, then go. No one will think any less of you for being cautious. Best of luck!!!

  • I definitely feel less movement when I'm busy. My OB said go with your gut instinct actually at this late stage. But any movement is good, not necessarily any number of kicks.

  • Honestly, I never remember to do the counts. LO is usually pretty active in the middle of the night, so I don't worry too much. I'm a big believer that when you're in doubt, you should call, though. It's definitely worth any inconvenience or embarrassment for the peace of mind.

Did you end up calling your doctor?
