I had a super stressful week at work. Lots of after school stuff going on and my husband started his own first teaching job. On Thursday I had worked 12 hours. On Friday I was exhausted but had my annual formal observation so I had to go. I also had a normal dr's appt. When I went my feet were horribly swollen. My feet had been swollen for months but no one was really worried about it bc my blood pressure was okay. Well my blood pressure was slightly high at the dr's office and since it was Friday afternoon, I was sent to L&D. When I got there they drew blood and had a stress test. Everything came back fine, but my blood pressure was jumping up and down so they kept me overnight. It kept going way up and then back down so they started scaring me, saying I might have to be induced, etc. It sucked being there overnight bc the cuff went off every hour so I didn't sleep at all. Finally the next afternoon the MW came in and said that since my bloodwork was okay I was allowed to go home, but on light bed rest and no work. I am allowed to go in tomorrow and get all of my sub plans together (a huge relief). My husband was incredible the entire time and today is our first anniversary. I'm kinda sad that we can't really celebrate, but he reminded me that healthy baby is the best gift we can get. Hopefully she can cook a little longer. 37 weeks (Wednesday) is considered fine, but 39 wks is ideal.
My quesiton is this- Can any harm have been done to the baby with my blood pressure spiking the way it was? I know the potential danger, but not if anything could have already happened.
Sorry for the rant. Still very tired.
Re: L&D and bed rest
Chronic high blood pressure causes damage to the plancenta. The plancenta is a micro vascular bed that will get damaged with the continues high pressures flowing though it. So a few high blood pressure readings will
Not cause direct injury to your baby. However at this stage of the game the risk
Of pre-e and help are what they are prob trying to prevent. Just know the signs of
Pre-E and rest! Good luck

Thanks again.
I agree with everything the PP's said. A few times of your BP spiking is not going to harm the baby, but continuous high BP isn't good for you or the baby. By taking it easy and following your bedrest orders, your BP is more likely to stay at a safe range.
I've been on bedrest for 3 weeks now due to elevated BP. Luckily it hasn't gotten any worse (its actually gotten a little better), but my doctor's are being careful and monitoring me closely to make sure it doesn't get out of hand. BP/preeclampsia can change quickly, so its better to be safe than sorry and just take it easy and keep an eye on it.
Try to relax and take care of yourself. Bedrest isn't the most fun thing, but at least we're pretty close to the end of our pregnancies and we don't have much longer until our LO's are here!
