Smash cake

My sister gave me a pointer about smash cakes that I hadn't thought about, and I thought I would pass it on.

She said to make sure that my cake contrasted with my kid, for the pics. My sister had a white cake, which didn't show up very well on the pictures of her very pasty little girl.

Re: Smash cake

  • I know, my mom suggested chocolate over white so it would show up better.. I had never thought of that. Def a good tip!

  • we're doing pink frosting.. white wouldn't show up too great and chocolate looks like poop. Seriously, my nephew had pics taken with his chocolate smash cake and it looked like he had poop all over him.

  • Good tip!  I think I will go with pink because I am going to make pink cake pops for all the guests.

  • Or you could do red velvet cake. Or a rainbow cake, yay!
  • Thanks for the tip.  I was thinking of doing white, and now I'm rethinking it.

I also read that you should avoid red frosting because red frosting+drool looks like blood.  Vampire babies!

  • We did a cake with blue icing. I assuming the icing had too much blue dye and dyed DS face blue.  My hands turned blue as well. I wouldn't be doing that again, but he sure did look cute!
