Fried Rice

Anyone make this at home?  We occasionally buy it from the asian wokery food court area at wegmans, but it is $$$ that way and honestly kinda dried out and stuff by the time you get home and heat it up.  I love love love fried rice when we go out to the Tokyo Hibachi restaurant a couple times a year.  Is there a semi-easy way to make it at home?

Re: Fried Rice

  • We make it at home all the time.  The key is to use "old" rice.  If I'm planning on making fried rice at some point during the week, I'll plan another rice meal for earlier in the week and make extra rice to save for the fried rice.  To make it, I dice up any veggies for it- usually onion, peppers, carrots, peas, bok choy- and toss them in a wok with a little oil.  When they have softened up a bit, I throw the rice in.  Add a little soy sauce to taste and heat everything through.  Easy peasy!

  • We made it when I was a kid a lot, ours always had egg in it too....was so good! Sorry, that's all I got!

I think the food at Wegmans Wokery is gross, and way too $$$! I like Read2me's way, sounds easy and doable!

  • We use day old rice as well, with an egg and frozen veg and soy sauce to taste.  Yum!
  • yep... I make it all the time, we love it! I usually use brown rice (and like Read2me said, it's best to use cold rice) toss it in a hot wok w/ some veggies and scrambled egg. Add in soy sauce and a bit of fish sauce. I like Siracha sauce on mine too. I sometimes make it a meal and use up leftover chicken or pork or fresh shrimp.

This is exactly what we do. A bag of frozen mixed veggies, scrambled egg, day old rice ad soy sauce.  We have a wok-type pan, but you can mix it all together in a regular skillet.  Super easy, cheap and yummy!

Awesome, thanks!  I wasn't sure how much oil to add so this helps a ton.
