TTC After a Loss

How much do you tip your hairdresser?

Just curious...I am only getting a cut and it will cost like $65 or something like that.

  • I usually don't. It always makes me feel a bit guilty BUT this woman is the only person I've ever had cut my hair so she's more of a family friend. She started getting lots of high end clientele over the last few years and became really busy so she had to keep raising her prices to lower demand. She told my mom that she did not expect tips from her regulars now that her prices were so high. I spend anywhere from 90-120 each haircut. I can't afford to tip her too!

My stylist always washes my hair, but if someone else did it, I probably would tip a few dollars.

  • Well, my hairstylist charges 50$ for a hair cut. I tip her like 10$ every time. Sometimes more if I can spare another 5$. I am a hairstylist too so I know how important tips are. I worked at a low end salon right out of beauty school that did mostly guys cuts for 15$ a pop. I used to love it when someone tipped me 10$ for a haircut. Those usually were the creepy guys too that always seemed like they had the hots for me. lol

  • My last cut was $38 and I tipped her $8.  I'd agree that 20% is probably a good rule of thumb.

I know it!  She's right down the street from my house and I love her!  I got two colors and a cut for that Smile

I did not get a hair 'cut', just trim and now I'm feeling a little jealous of you!  I told my husband if my hair would just stay curled everyday, I wouldn't cut it.  And guess what happened yesterday?  It stayed beautifully curled all day long.

  • It depends... if I really liked the service, $20. If the service was bad, $10.

I'm a big tipper though. It drives DH nuts. I used to live on tips so I have a hard time not tipping well.

Back to me being jealous of you...my hair NEVER stays curly.  I stopped trying because it just wasn't working.

My hair does not stay curled unless it's short, but for some oddball reason it stayed.  I am sure I'll go back to the salon within a month to get it chopped!
