TTC After a Loss

Health/Eating/Drinking while TTC

Since I've had lots of months to try different things, I've done it all.

My 2 BFP's came from cycles where I ran as much as I wanted, drank on the weekends and had plenty of coffee.

All of the other cycles I've cut out caffeine, stopped drinking, only walked for exercise, eaten super healthy and gotten BFN's.

I'm discouraged this is taking so long and wondering how long I'll be not enjoying coffee, wine, a good run (Peri said no running when pg due to loss history), etc...since I won't be doing these things for atleast a year after I do finally get a sticky BFP and now I've been not doing them for almost a year already.

Do you guys cut out lots of this stuff too?  I feel like I'm making so many lifestyle changes that are difficult.  Anyone else annoyed that you're giving up all of this stuff and still not getting BFP's?!

Re: Health/Eating/Drinking while TTC

  • It took 14 cycles to conceive DS and 2 years to conceive the one we just lost. I would have been miserable if I had given up my morning Coke and my evening pinot. I think life should carry on as is until you get that BFP and then make any necessary adjustments. I hope you get your take home baby really soon!

  • I fell off the coffee wagon so many times the past year. I saw my OB last week and he said one cup of coffee a day was fine. I am back to that although there are times I need two cups.  When I get the two pink lines, I will try to quit or just have an occasional cup.

  • I've cut out a lot of stuff in the past, even going decaf for almost a year! The only thing I really haven't cut out was drinking alcohol, only because I don't drink a lot anyways. Maybe a drink or two a week.

But... here I am. And yes, I was getting very annoyed!!! So I started drinking caffeine and didn't care about much of anything else. Who knows what will help!

  • I was already a really healthy eater but I did cut out coffee and most of the drinking I did (which wasn't much to begin with though). The biggest thing for me was exercise because it's what I do for a living (group fitness/personal training) and also for fun (triathlon/marathon). My BFP cycle i limited my exercise a lot and now that I am TTCAL I have kind of decided that the running/spinning etc. is making me a lot less stressed than I was when I was avoiding it and that hopefully limiting my stress will help me TTC instead of hindering me.

  • The only thing I cut out when I decided to TTC was smoking. Otherwise I have not changed my lifestyle at all. Plenty of alcoholics and crackheads have babies. I'm not going to feel guilty over a cup of coffee or a martini.
  • I haven't cut too much out. I try to eat healthy and excercise but not necessarily because of TTC. When I got pregnant each time, I changed my diet to mostly organic fruits, veggies, milk, and meat but now I continue to eat that way if I can afford/find it. The first two times I was pregnant I still drank a cup a day of coffee, the last time I had none at all. I think if you are a healthy person as a whole (normal bmi, mostly healthy eater, no drugs/smoking) than you don't really need to limit anything while TTC. Life would suck while waiting.

  • Thanks for the input ladies.

I feel like these changes are what I have control over that can boost my chances.  But, they clearly aren't doing the trick and I think I'm going to lighten up a bit.  I enjoyed 2 cups of coffee this AM and going to run in a bit.   Since I might be in this TTC game for awhile longer, I need to keep living!

  • When I had my BFP, I was downing coffee like nobody's business -- it took 2 years to conceive, and I was at the point where I thought it wouldn't happen at all, so I wasn't necessarily taking care of myself.

I've kept up the no alcohol, no caffeine, no junk food diet because if we get another BFP again, I don't want to take any chances.  But a little slip here and there does happen -- we're only human, after all!

This. Though I've cut back on coffee to one or two cups in the am so it's easy to eliminate when I get a BFP, and I just feel better in the Mornings as a result.
