I know many of you have been there with kids. As I have mentioned before, we didn't enjoy our trip nearly 10 yrs ago(pre-kids) to Disney. Here we are, trip booked to go to Orlando/Disney in less than 2 weeks. I have lots of questions for those who have been there with kids.
Has anyone used a AAA VIP parking pass? I bought one on Ebay (I know, techniqually this voids it). Did I waste my $10? I know it doesn't include the cost of parking but I don't want to attempt a tram with the kids.
Would you use a stroller for a 4 and 2 yr old? I feel like the kids are too big for a stroller but am also concerned about them getting tired. I would need a double or nothing, they would fight over one. I don't want to take one with me and I refuse to pay $31 per day in the park for a stroller rental. I know I can rent them in Orlano from rental companies, but the price isn't much better. We will have 4 day park hopper passes.
Anyone trade pins in the park? I think Tyler would LOVE this, so I bought the kids some lanyards and pins off Ebay. Do a lot of people do this? Anything I need to know that I haven't read about online?
We are going to spend a day at Cocoa beach, anyone been? Anything I should know?
Any other must-do's or money saving tips? Tyler is afraid of character costumes.
Re: Lets Talk Disney World
Are you staying on property? I think that if you are than you can park for free at the parks. In all the times I have been there I've only driven into the parks on two days. Transportation is always super easy.
I "feared" Claire would see pins she would want and I'd have to buy $10. pins for her so I bought pins off of ebay last week. All obvious fakes. I'm returning them to the seller because, even though I know a ton of the pins in the parks aren't Disney, I feel weird passing off these as they are really bad knock-offs.
We decided to skip our double and bring a single down to FL with us. My parents have 1 single wating for us already. This is what stressed me out the most about our trip planning. I've been to Disney between 15 and 20 times but never with young kids so I'm trying to plan more than I ever have before.
No, we are staying at Floridays on I-Drive. We have stayed there in the past when we have gone to Orlando (but skipped Disney). It is a huge money saver over stayin on property. I know we will have to pay to park ($14/day) at the parks, but otherwise our hotel is only $168+tax /night for a three bedroom, 2 bath, 1300 sq foot condo with full kitchen and washer and dryer. Since we are traveling with MIL and the kids NEED to be separated at night this is by far the best option for us. There is nothing on Disney property with similar accomodations for under a medium size fortune per night. Also, Tyler doesn't eat much variety so being able to cook some meals is important. And I love that I can just do laundry at my leasure half way through the week instead of lugging a week's worth of clothes for me and the kids. Since we want to go to the ocean and some museums, we would need a car any way. And I worry about Ty on crowded public transportation.
Oh man, I bought a lot of 25 off Ebay that I haven't gotten yet. I hope they are good. The seller has over 5000 positive feedbacks in the past year. What about the person you bought from?
I have no idea about parking as we stay on property and use the buses.
Well, if I were going today I wouldn't leave home without a stroller. But I have a kid that doesn't fight it and would sit and rest if told to do so. We did give him tons of walking time when we went last (just shy of 2), but it was nice to have that stroller when we had to move quick in the airport, during a down pour to the bus area outside the parks, and during a walk from the hotel room to the bus stop. It was also great to be able to provide him shade (we went in June) when there wasn't any available.
I have never done pins, we never really even noticed them when we were there. Sure they have stands and stores, but it was never a hot spot for us.
Never been to Cocoa Beach.
We ordered a groceries from Garden Grocer, but we didn't have a car to go to the store. Buying a case of water was a huge money saver. You can take whatever you want into the parks food/drink wise as long as there is NO glass. We bought battery operated fans before we left, this was great as they are $$$ in the parks. I also brought glow sticks/bracelets. Great for night time for fun and also great for dark rides. The baby centers are wonderful, each park has one and it is a cool place to relax. Usually no crowds for the potty unless it is a meal time. They have a TV, toys, and space to unwind if needed. They have water for free, microwaves, etc.
R loved the characters, but we had to go to them if we wanted to see them. If he didn't want to interact with them he didn't have too. We did get an autograph book and had it signed by many. If you do bring a stroller, bring something to mark it (even a rented one). Ribbon tied on the handle worked well for us, the cast members will move them during a ride/show to organize them if needed. I used 2 bags, a smaller one with important stuff (wallet, camera, etc) to pull out when we left the stroller. Honestly we left his thermos, fan, etc on the stroller and it was never touched.
I found the disboards very helpful, lots of info! We looked at crowd counters and which parks had longer hours to decide what to do each day. We did have park hoppers which made it nice to go back to room for nap/down time/pool and then head to a different park if we wanted.
I am dying to go back, love WDW!
I don't have info on parking, but I would probably recommend taking or renting a stroller. The parks are actually pretty big, and the stroller is a good way for kids to rest. Rosie doesn't really go in the stroller all that much anymore, but she rode in it a lot there. Especially if you're going to Epcot- it's a really big park and very spread out, it would be a lot of walking for young kids.
Oh, and I wanted to mention that if you think Tyler would have problems in the lines, I think you can get a doctor's note that would allow you to skip them. I have a friend who travelled to Disney with her family, and some of them were on the spectrum and they did that and it was very helpful for them.
