For those mommies on the board from Canada (and perhaps second time mom's with some experience especially) when do you plan to submit an application for your EI/maternity benefits? I've been trying to muddle through the GofC website to be prepared and find it all a little confusing!
Re: Canadian Mommies - mat leave EI benefits?
I had to go to the office to get my last name changed on my SIN card (same office as the EI applications - Service Canada) and I figured while I was there I might as well ask about the process. The lady said on my very last day of work to go on line and apply for it regardless if I have my ROE or not, she said this way it'll start the process and stop any sort of additional delays in getting your first cheque to you.
PS - a little tid bit I'm glad I was informed of. If you're anything like me and changed your last name after marriage in tidbits on a need to know basis you'll want to do your SIN ASAP before you consider applying for EI, otherwise it'll be yet another delay in getting your first cheque to you if not all of your information is matching in all areas.
This is definitely helpful, thanks!
LIke the PP said you apply on the last day of paid work that you have. Hopefully your place of employement will give you your ROE that day and you can send everything in. (Photocopy everything!) But to start the filing you don't have to have your ROE.
It takes around 3-4 weeks before that first cheque comes in after all the paper work and everything goes through.
Perfect, thanks!
Thanks for that! I was starting to wonder how to legally change my name....
